Theatre Pro Rata's 2019-20 season will include two world premieres by local playwrights and a production in collaboration with the Bell Museum that will be presented in the Whitney and Elizabeth MacMillan Planetarium.

Silent Sky is a marvelous one act play by Lauren Gunderson which tells the story of Henrietta Leavitt, a brilliant woman who worked as a "computer" - not unlike the women in Hidden Figures - at the Harvard Astronomy Lab in the early 1900s.

Lauren Gunderson's play, Silent Sky, is based on the true story of astronomer Henrietta Leavitt. Nearly 20 years before American women could vote, Henrietta Leavitt graduated from Radcliff College, took a job in Harvard's Observatory and, working from slides because women weren't allowed to touch the telescopes, she discovered the amount by which the star's brightness is dimmed by distance allows the star's distance from the earth to be calculated. Leavitt turned a two-dimensional picture of the sky into a three-dimensional one.

Kicking off their 66th theatre season, The Naples Players (TNP) announce the 2019-2020 theatre season. The upcoming season reaffirms The Naples Players' dedication to providing a superior theatre experience for the community with an exciting combination of Tony Award-winning plays and musicals as well as popular beloved classics and exhilarating new works. Lauren Gunderson's play, Silent Sky, is based on the true story of astronomer Henrietta Leavitt. The play opens in 1900, when Leavitt is working in the Harvard Observatory in the 'woman's room.' These women 'computers,' are tasked with measuring and cataloging stars. They work from photographic plates because women were not allowed to touch the telescopes. The astronomer for whom they work calculates projects in 'girl hours,' has no time for the women's probing theories and has no problem taking credit for their ideas.

THEATRE LAWRENCE announces a brand new season filled with surprises, a musical favorite, and some brand new shows to tempt you.

The Highlander Theatre Company, the resident theatre company of Somerville High School will present Silent Sky by Lauren Gunderson on Thursday, March 21 at 7pm and Friday, March 22 at 7pm in the Centennial Auditorium at Somerville High School, 81 Highland Ave.

Though acting on stage is nothing new to writer-director Bibeth Orteza, she considers her stint in this year's restaging of Lauren Gunderson's play 'Silent Sky' still difficult. For her, it is always tough when one does her best.

For centuries, the significant contributions of science by women have been relatively unappreciated or unknown (unless you're Madame Curie), but thanks to recent a recent uptake of science-oriented bio dramas that is about to shift theatrically. Currently running at Theatre Baton Rouge is SILENT SKY, a vastly crucial yet little-known story of one woman whose groundwork laid the foundations of mapping the universe despite gender bias and other obstacles.

Sinclair Theatre will present SILENT SKY, February 8-16 in its Black Box Theatre, Building 2, on the downtown Dayton campus.
