Second Stage Theatre Announces 2013 Uptown Summer Season: THE TUTORS and MURDER FOR TWO

Second Stage Theatre (Carole Rothman, Artistic Director) has announced a world premiere play along with a New York premiere new musical which will be presented as part of the company's eleventh annual Second Stage Theatre Uptown Series this summer: Erica Lipez's The Tutors, directed by Thomas Kail and Murder For Two with Book and Music by Joe Kinosian and Book and Lyrics by Kellen Blair.

Artistic Director Jenny Gersten announced at a press conference in Williamstown today the roster of Main Stage and Nikos Stage productions for the 2013 Williamstown Theatre Festival (WTF) Season, the Festival's 59th season and third under Ms. Gersten's leadership.

When I first saw Marie Jones's play STONES IN HIS POCKETS, I wasn't reviewing, but was working as the Front of House Manager at the Bushnell where Bronson Pinchot was starring in the tour stop there in 2002. About half of the audience left at intermission, most of them asking what the play was about. I couldn't answer. I had no idea myself.

I'll spare you any idioms regarding the distance between apples and trees while examining the newest work of Daisy Foote, the playwright who carries on the lineage of one of America's treasured dramatist, the late Horton Foote.  But comparison is inevitable as the daughter's most recent work has a similar voice to that of her father; just differently accented.

On Tuesday, April 3rd, Primary Stages (Casey Childs, Founder & Executive Producer; Andrew Leynse, Artistic Director; Elliot Fox, Managing Director) celebrated opening night of The Morini Strad, a new play by Willy Holtzman (Sabina). Directed by Casey Childs, the cast features Michael Laurence (Krapp39, Broadway's Talk Radio, Opus at Primary Stages), Tony nominee Mary Beth Peil ('The Good Wife,' 'Dawson's Creek,' The King and I), and celebrated violin soloist Hanah Stuart (Chicago Symphony Hall, Zankel Hall). The production features a set design by Neil Patel, costume design by David C. Woolard, lighting design by Mary Louise Geiger, original music and sound design by Lindsay Jones, and projection design by Jan Hartley.The limited engagement plays through April 28 at Primary Stages at 59E59 Theaters. 44th Annual Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival Lineup Announced

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts will host more than 120 outstanding theater students from colleges and universities across the nation as part of the 44th annual Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF), April 16-21, 2012. In January and February of this year, these artists from eight regions presented their outstanding work and were selected to travel to Washington, D.C. for an expense-paid trip to participate in National Festival events taking place at the Kennedy Center.
