A dynamic mix of live music, bold new writing and comedy exploring what it's like growing up in the 2020s – and how it's not too different from our universal experiences of being teenagers – can be seen at Scarborough's Stephen Joseph Theatre next week.

The Carnegie is preparing for its first-ever Tiny Concert Series, featuring local singers and Carnegie favorites, and Community Film Series next month.

Artist Series Concerts celebrates Mother's Day and closes out its 23rd season with "An Afternoon of Operetta," Sunday, May 12, 4:00 p.m. at the Sarasota Opera House, 61 N. Pineapple Ave., Sarasota. Soloists Emily Martin, Stacey Rishoi, Mark Lubas, Luis Gonzalez and Garrett Obrycki are joined by singers from Choral Artists of Sarasota for a program showcasing highlights of popular operettas, including Offenbach's "Can-Can" and "Barcarolle," von Suppe's "Poet and Peasant" overture and much more. The performance also features a condensed concert version of Gilbert and Sullivan's "The Pirates of Penzance" that includes "Poor Wandering One," "The Pirate King," "The Modern Major General" and others. Joseph Holt takes to the keyboards for the production, joined by Daniel Jordan, violin, Samantha Bennett, violin, Steven Laraia, viola and Natalie Helm, cello, all principal musicians with the Sarasota Orchestra. A post-concert reception with the artists will be held immediately after the performance on the second floor of the Opera House. Tickets for the concert are $20 - $55. Ticket for the reception are $35 and include an open bar and hors d'oeuvres. The Green Room 42 brings New Generation Theater Company's 'Let Me Be Your Star' to New York City for a one night only engagement. 'Let Me Be Your Star' is a musical tribute to one of NBC's most treasured TV series SMASH. The performance will play Saturday, April 13th at 9:30pm at The Green Room 42. Totem Pole Playhouse, in association with Gettysburg Community Theatre, will once again bring its original adaptation of the Charles Dickens' holiday classic A Christmas Carol to the stage of Gettysburg College's Majestic Theater this December 8-17. On May 14, Phantom Projects Theatre Group will continue its crusade of offering perspective and support through original theatre productions when it introduces Through These Eyes at the La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts at 10AM and 7PM.

So. Cal audiences should check out Musical Theatre West's rather admirable regional production of LES MISERABLES, which continues its limited run at the Carpenter Performing Arts Center in Long Beach through April 26, 2015. This highly-commendable, local production features a superb-sounding 30-person cast, an impressive arsenal of lighting, set, and costume designs, and strikingly lush musical accompaniment from a 16-piece live orchestra. Despite some choppy-ness in its narrative flow, the ear candy produced by this exceptional collective had me floating in euphoria.

Musical Theatre West (MTW) presents the exhilarating musical masterpiece, LES MISERABLES at the Carpenter Performing Arts Center tonight, April 10, through April 26.

Based (often satirically) on the 1980 Olivia Newton-John and Gene Kelly film of the same title, XANADU features pop hits including "Evil Woman," "I'm Alive" and "Magic."
