BWW Reviews: HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH Retooled And Ready To Rock
by Paul Batterson
- Jun 17, 2019
HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH, which makes its triumphant return to the Short North Stage's Garden Theatre (1187 N. High Street in downtown Columbus) this June, is a musical that thrives in its awkward pauses. It is one-part comedy, two parts heartbreaking exposition of a soul-bearing torment, blended together with a pulsating rock soundtrack.
BWW Reviews: SNS' PIPPIN Leaves Its Performers Hanging But Not The Audience
by Paul Batterson
- Mar 25, 2019
Performing as the Leading Player in Short North Stage's production of PIPPIN, Knicole faces a whole new set of challenges, including singing upside down from a trapeze six feet off the ground. PIPPIN, which runs from March 21-April 14 at the Garden Theatre (1187 N. High Street in downtown Columbus), could be best described as a circus. The SNS production features a host of performers in clown white as well as some Cirque Du Soleil-like acrobatics in its retelling of Pippin's search for meaning in his life.

Photo Coverage: Inside Ohio Artists Gathering's THE BIG TABLE
by Jerri Shafer
- Aug 30, 2018
Last night, Short North Stage welcomed a wonderful array of people in Columbus theatre to speak with Broadway actor Mike Faist and the general public about the growth of the Columbus theatre community. Represented on our panel was Short North Stage, Madlab Theatre, Columbus Children's Theatre, CAPA, and The Greater Columbus Arts Council. In their discussion, they touched on the many opportunities held within Columbus theatre as well as the potential for growth in the future. Columbus is a booming artistic city with an incredibly active theatre scene. Events such as the Ohio Artists Gathering are encouraging to bring together the many theatres of Columbus so that they may not only connect with each other, but also put Columbus on the map as being one of the best places in the country to go to for live theatre. A huge thank you is due to all who came out and supported the Ohio Artists Gathering last night as well as The Columbus Foundation for making The Big Table discussion a possibility.
Visit the Ohio Artists Gathering webpage for more information about the event and more events this week you can attend: https://ohioartistsgathering.com/
BWW Reviews: THE PERFORMERS comes out on top in the end
by Paul Batterson
- Feb 5, 2018
Somehow, it seems fitting that THE PERFORMERS, the David West Read comedy set in the adult film industry, would make its Columbus debut at the Garden Theatre. Before becoming the home base for the Short North Stage, the theatre did a stint as a burlesque theatre between being movie house and a church.
BWW Reviews: Each Performer Makes Voice Heard in SNS' DREAMGIRLS
by Paul Batterson
- Oct 31, 2017
The beautiful thing about the Short North Stage's production of writer Tom Eyen's musical is each member of the show brings something unique and beautiful to the two-act, two-and-a-half hour show. The result is not a cacophony of voices but a soul-stirring mixture of harmony and that Columbus should not mis

Ohio's very own Short North Stage will be hosting yet another Charles Busch play 'Cleopatra' July 27th - August 6th at the Garden Theater. BWW Review: Big High Five to Twisted HAND TO GOD
by Paul Batterson
- Feb 6, 2017
Prior to working in the Short North Stage's production of HAND TO GOD, Danny Turek had very little experience in the world of puppetry. After opening the show on Feb. 2, Turek and his alter ego 'Tyrone' appear to be inseparable.
