Savannah Music Festival Plays 3/24-4/9

The 2011 Savannah Music Festival (SMF) is an expansive city-wide, multi-venue program showcasing a wide array of internationally acclaimed artists in over one hundred productions from March 24 to April 9. Held annually in historic downtown Savannah, this 22nd season of Georgia's largest festival - described by The Times of London as 'one of the best events around the world'- features two premieres, numerous festival debuts, and the return of several audience favorites from the realms of classical, jazz, Americana and world music.

Smuin Ballet Presents OH, INVERTED WORLD, Closes 2/27

Smuin Ballet presents the riveting Oh, Inverted World by acclaimed choreographer Trey McIntyre set to music by the popular indie-rock band The Shins in Walnut Creek (Feb 4-5), Carmel (Feb 18-19), and Mountain View (Feb 23-27).. This dynamic ballet the New York Times called 'striking' and 'remarkable' made its world premiere in San Francisco last October. The program will also include Bluegrass/ Slyde by Michael Smuin, an electric piece called 'riotous' by the SF Examiner and featuring the bluegrass twang of renowned banjoist Béla Fleck and master bassist Edgar Meyer. Rounding out the program is Smuin's classic ballet Brahms-Haydn Variations, a lyrical favorite filled with courtly references, called 'lovely' by the San Francisco Chronicle and 'impressive' by the New York Times. Single tickets ($49-$62) are available through their prospective theatres or by visiting www.smuinballet.org.

Bassist Joseph Conyers Joins Philadelphia Orchestra

The Philadelphia Orchestra announces the appointment of Joseph Conyers as assistant principal bass. Mr. Conyers, whose tenure began at the start of the 2010-11 season, comes to the Orchestra from the Atlanta Symphony, where he served a one-and-a-half year tenure. Previously, he held the position of principal bass with the Grand Rapids Symphony and spent four summers as a member of the Santa Fe Opera Orchestra.

No Depression Festival Set for Marymoor Park, 8/20

As part of the 2010 Marymoor Concert Series, Seattle Theatre Group (STG Presents), Live Nation, and The Lakeside Group present the second annual No Depression Festival, sponsored by the pioneering and influential roots-music magazine and website. The festival will take place Saturday, August 21, 2010, at Marymoor Park in Redmond, Washington, just outside Seattle. The all-day event will feature The Swell Season, Lucinda Williams, The Cave Singers, Punch Brothers, Alejandro Escovedo, Chuck Prophet & Sera Cahoone.

Wyrczynski Appointed Professor of Music at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music

Following a year as visiting professor, violist Stephen Wyrczynski has been appointed professor of music at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, pending approval of the Trustees of Indiana University.
