The popular Sound Opinions at the Movies series continues with a screening of Wattstax, the 1973 Mel Stuart documentary chronicling the legendary Stax Records-sponsored Watts Summer Music Festival, at the Music Box Theatre, 3733 N. Southport Avenue, Wednesday, May 1, at 7:30 p.m. Chicago Public Media's Sound Opinions, the world's only rock 'n' roll talk show, is co-hosted by acclaimed pop music critics Greg Kot of the Chicago Tribune and Jim DeRogatis of WBEZ.org and airs on more than 100 radio stations around the country.

On Monday, February 25, the Broadway at Birdland concert series presented the third annual Broadway Belts for PFF, which raised over $70,000 for the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation. The evening was hosted by Julie Halston, and starred Klea Blackhurst, Linda Lavin, Emily Bergl, Debbie Gravitte, Emma Hunton, Alyssa Paulsen, Robert Creighton, Max von Essen, John McDaniel, and Ed Watts. The show was directed by Carl Andress, with musical direction by Jesse Kissel.

Jack Gindi's new play, Best Friends, will have a staged reading at 2:00pm on Friday, November 16th at Theatre 54 inside Shetler Studios. David Glenn Armstrong directs this four-person contemporary comedy/drama which stars Josh Adam Davis, Sarah Nedwek, Graham Powell, and Leah Wagner.

According to an Equity casting notice, Kathie Lee Gifford, David Friedman and David Pomeranz new musical, THE AIMEE PROJECT will open on Broadway sometime this fall at a theater to be announced. According to the notice, David Armstrong will helm, alongside Joel Fram as the musical director and Lorin Latarro as the choreographer. Rehearsals are listed as beginning in September of 2012.

In 1966 the Hallmark Hall of Fame presented a television adaptation of Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt's Off Broadway musical THE FANTASTICKS. Ricardo Montalban appeared as El Gallo and Bert Lahr and Stanley Holloway were the two fathers. The young lovers were played by Broadway's favorite ingenue, Susan Watson, and a clean-cut young man named John Davidson who had made a strong impression on Broadway audiences as Lahr's son in the musical FOXY.
