Five playwrights are the 2022 recipients of The New York Community Trust’s prestigious Helen Merrill Award for Playwriting.

Concord Theatricals has announced the winners of the 2022 Samuel French Off Off Broadway Short Play Festival, the nation's premier short play competition. The six plays will be published and available for licensing by Samuel French in the 47th edition of its Off Off Broadway collection.

Samuel French’s Off Off Broadway Short Play Festival has announced that Joshua Harmon is this year’s honorary festival playwright. This year’s top 30 playwrights were chosen from over 650 submissions around the world. They will present their plays during a week-long festival August 16-20 at the Peter Jay Sharp Theater in New York City.

Steep Theatre's second summer production is the US premiere of Tony Award-winning playwright Simon Stephens' Light Falls set to open July 8th. Stephens, Steep's Associate Playwright, will make his fifth production with Ensemble Member Robin Witt once again serving as director. Witt has also directed Stephen's Wastwater, Motortown, Pornography and Harper Regan, Steep's bestselling production.

Steep Theatre will make its much-anticipated return to production with the Midwest Premiere of Eboni Booth's Paris, opening June 18th.

Ms. Booth, a Drama Desk award-winning actor, made her Off-Broadway playwriting debut with the critically-acclaimed Paris at Atlantic Theatre Company in January of 2020.  Steep Ensemble Member Jonathan Berry, who has been at the helm of a slew of Steep hits over the years including Ike Holter's Red Rex and Simon Stephens' Birdland, directs.

 Chicago will continue to produce some of the most exciting work in the country this summer. Offerings from the city’s more than 250 producing theatres include a wide variety of plays and musicals, as well as comedy, dance, and outdoor events.    

Roundabout Theatre Company is presenting the Roundabout Underground world premiere of Exception to the Rule by Dave Harris (2022 Outer Critics Circle awards nominee, Tambo & Bones), directed by Roundabout Resident Director Miranda Haymon which opens tomorrow, May 18.

Tony Award-nominated and five-time Obie Award-winning theater company Clubbed Thumb has announced the complete line-up for the rescheduled 25th SUMMERWORKS festival of new plays. The Harold and Mimi Steinberg Charitable Trust today announced the names of the 10 outstanding early-to-mid-career playwrights who will be celebrated with 2021 Steinberg Playwright Awards in the amount of $10,000 each. 

Lynne Meadow (Artistic Director) and Barry Grove (Executive Producer) have announced a robust slate of playwright commissions through Manhattan Theatre Club's new partnership with the Edgerton Foundation, as well as a new round of commissions supported by ongoing partnerships with Bobbie Olsen and other donors.
