Aurora Theatre Company presents its first fully staged production in the company's second stage performance space, Harry's UpStage. Award-winning Bay Area auteur Mark Jackson returns to the company to direct this sixth addition to the season, the Professional Bay Area Premiere of John W. Lowell's suspenseful psychological thriller THE LETTERS, featuring Beth Wilmurt (The Eccentricities of a Nightingale) and Michael Ray Wisely (The Arsonists). THE LETTERS plays April 17 through May 25 at Harry's UpStage, located in the Nell and Jules Dashow Wing at the Aurora Theatre in Berkeley. Artistic Director Richard Rose and General Manager Gideon Arthurs proudly rolled out Tarragon Theatre's 8-play 2014-15 season today, filled with adventurous theatrical experiences both on and off the stage, and set Tarragon up for a fresh, affordable and seductive reinvention of the theatre-going experience. Vince, mittlerweile Mitglied bei der freiwilligen Feuerwehr und Dealer, hat diese Niederlage und den Vertrauensbruch nie verwunden. Jon dreht seit langerem vielversprechende Low-Budget-Filme, Amy arbeitet als Staatsanwaltin. Die drei ehemaligen Schulfreunde treffen sich nach Jahren in einem Motel, wo Jon beim ortlichen Filmfestival seinen jungsten Film prasentiert. Aus dem Treffen wird eine Abrechnung.

Today, December 3 and the 4th, La MaMa will hold a two-day series of conversations, workshops and panels to accompany the two productions of its European Young Directors' Forum. Participants will include European directors Bojan Djordjev (Serbia/Croatia), Paul Knieriem (The Netherlands), Bastian Kraft (Germany), Ana Tomovic (Serbia) and U.S. based directors Anne Bogart, Meiyin Wang, John Jesurun and Charlotte Braithwaite.

Berlin's Deutsches Theater was to present CLYBOURNE PARK, the Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning play, earlier this year - with a white actress in 'experimental makeup' playing the black characters Francine and Lena. Today, Village Voice columnist Michael Musto writes that the production was cancelled after playwright Bruce Norris revoked the rights; in a published letter to the Dramatists Guild, Norris explains his reasoning and condemns the tradition of blackface in German theatres:

Closing Aurora's 20th season is the World Premiere of SALOMANIA, Aurora Theatre Company Artistic Director Tom Ross's first new play commission for the company, written and directed by award-winning Bay Area auteur Mark Jackson (Metamorphosis, Salome, Miss Julie). Workshopped and developed at Aurora in 2010, SALOMANIA features Madeline H.D. Brown (Metamorphosis), Mark Anderson Phillips (Small Tragedy), Alex Moggridge (Betrayed), Liam Vincent (California Shakespeare Theater), Anthony Nemirovsky (Awake and Sing!), Marilee Talkington (Crowded Fire), and Kevin Clarke (Shotgun Players). SALOMANIA plays tonight, June 15 through July 22 at the Aurora Theatre in Berkeley.
