The Yard Welcomes Versatile Author, Director and Actor to its Roster of Affiliate Artists

The Ruckus Theater hops into the teenage decade of the second millennium by announcing two additions to its 2009/2010 season: the world premiere of The Gay American by Kristian O'Hare, directed by Artistic Director Allison Shoemaker (May 2010), and a workshop of the world-premiere musical Escape from the Vienna Boys Choir, book Aaron Dean, music and lyrics by Jason Rico (June 2010); both are produced at The Side Project Theatre (1439 W Jarvis).

Michael Riedel in this morning's New York Post reports that Oskar Eustis, the head of the Public Theater, is in talks with Paul Simon about bringing his Broadway flop, THE CAPEMAN, back to the theatrical stage.

After founding the Classical Theatre of Harlem (CTH) and serving as the company's Artistic Director and Executive Director for the past eleven seasons respectively, Alfred Preisser and Christopher McElroen will depart the Off-Broadway theatre this November.

Bill Pullman opened Friday, June 5 in David Mamet's Oleanna at the Mark Taper Forum. Indiana University Associate Professor Osamu James Nakagawa was confirmed as a Guggenheim Fellow last week. Fellows were announced Tuesday, April 7. This marks the 85th year for the annual competition, established to honor 'stellar achievement and exceptional promise for continued accomplishment' to add to the 'educational, literary, artistic and scientific power of this country, and also to provide for the cause of better international understanding,' according to the organization's mission statement.

The award-winning playwright David Hare has announced that Frances Ya-Chu Cowhig is the recipient of the 2009 Yale Drama Series Award for Playwriting for her play Lidless. Ms. Cowhig's Yale Drama Series prize includes a $10,000 award from the David C. Horn Foundation, along with a staged reading of the work at Yale Rep in September 2009 (date TBA) and the publication of the play by Yale University Press.

The dark comedy, written by Ronan Noone, directed by Justin Waldman and starring Campbell Scott as 'Augustine Early,' began performances at Culture Project's temporary new home, Barrow Street Theatre, on Tuesday, October 7th and has an official opening night Sunday, October 12.
