The New Yiddish Rep is staging the first-ever production of Samuel Beckett's "Waiting for Godot" in Yiddish. In an unusual collaboration with the Castillo Theatre, 543 West 42nd Street, where the world premiere runs from Friday September 20 to Sunday October 13, diverse audiences will see this seismic landmark of the modern theatre in an entirely new light. Directed by Moshe Yassur, with an authorized translation by Shane Baker, the production marks the 60th anniversary of "Waiting for Godot's" Paris premiere in January of 1953. This "Waiting for Godot" opens on Sunday September 22 at 2pm.

Last night some of New York's most gifted singers, comedians, and novelty performers will bring 2nd Avenue and the Lower East Side of a century ago back to side-splitting, tear-jerking life in "You Don't Have to Speak Yiddish to Understand the Truth!" Playing the Metropolitan Room, 34 West 22nd Street, for one night only, this star-infested revue is produced by Media Blitz Entertainment, and hosted by the biggest star in Yiddish vaudeville today, the emcee Shane Baker. On November 7th more than 150 theatre artists and patrons attended the 2011 Castillo Theatre Gala Benefit at the All Stars Project's performing arts and development center, 543 West 42nd Street. The gala, which raised a record $77,000 for Castillo and its youth theatre training program, Youth Onstage!, paid tribute to four influential women of the theatre: Carmen de Lavallade, Gabrielle L. Kurlander, Judith Malina and Daphne Rubin-Vega.
