BWW Review: An Elegant GRAND HOTEL at SHAW FESTIVAL
by Michael Rabice - Jun 11, 2018

'People come, people go,' 'some have, some have not.' Simple lyrics that can expose a myriad of stories and wounds. Just what one would expect in a busy hotel. No one is ever quite sure what happens behind the closed doors of a grand hotel, but outward appearances are often just that, appearances that don't always belie the truth. Given those opportunities for musical intrigue, The Shaw Festival is producing an elegant production of GRAND HOTEL at their Festival Theatre for their 2018 Season.

BWW Review: MAMMA MIA! Brings A Refreshing New Look To A Classic Musical
by Alyson Eng - May 20, 2018

With its well-known songs such as 'Honey Honey' and 'Dancing Queen,' the beloved story of Sophie Sheridan, her mother Donna, and Sophie's 3 possible fathers: Sam, Harry, and Bill brought many laughs and warmed the hearts of audience members during Mamma Mia's opening night at the Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage in Vancouver. The hit musical featuring the songs of ABBA will continue its run until August 12th. As many are familiar with the movie adaptation of the musical from 2008 starring Amanda Seyfried and Meryl Streep and are excited for the movie's sequel, Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again, this stage production of Mamma Mia from the Vancouver Arts Club couldn't have come at a better time.

by Tyler Peterson - Mar 28, 2016

Lifeline Theatre presents Northanger Abbey, a world premiere musical with book by Lifeline Theatre ensemble member Robert Kauzlaric (Non-Equity Jeff Awards: New Adaptation, The Island of Dr. Moreau and Neverwhere), music and lyrics by George Howe (Non-Equity Jeff Award: New Work-Musical, Queen Lucia), and directed by Lifeline Theatre ensemble member Elise Kauzlaric (Non-Equity Jeff nomination: Director-Play, Mariette in Ecstasy), based on the novel by Jane Austen. Catherine Morland leaves her quiet country home for the splendors of Bath, armed only with an innocent heart and the examples of her favorite literary heroines. Immersed in a new world of parties, balls, and high society, Catherine soon finds herself caught in a web of social scheming far above her skill to master. False friends, greedy lovers, and a wealth of misunderstandings lead to the revelation that bruises of the heart can be far more painful than the imagined terrors of Gothic novels. The production runs approximately two and a half hours with one intermission. The book will be on sale in the lobby.

BWW Review: HELEN LAWRENCE - A New Approach to Noir Film
by Olga El - Oct 26, 2015

Helen Lawrence is a noir, neo-classic complete with blonde femme fatales, men on the run, corrupt cops, seedy murders, street-smart sex workers, witty jargon and a consistent flow of humor. Post WWII-era Vancouver is projected in grayscale on a screen that mildly obscures the onstage actors basking in the light of the moody blue screen behind them.
