This month, Arts Club brought Roald Dahl's classic tale to life with its production of MATILDA THE MUSICAL. Playing at the Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage in Vancouver from May 16th to July 14th, Arts Club does not disappoint with this truly remarkable show.

Citadel Theatre has announced that Capital Power has renewed their commitment to the arts by signing a new three-year agreement to be the Citadel's Season Sponsor, starting in the 2019/20 Season.

Citadel Theatre announced today the line-up for The House Series, formerly known as Beyond The Stage. The House Series features six spectacular shows throughout the 2019/20 Season, bringing audiences the best concerts, cabarets, and comedy in a casual, up-close-and-personal setting. Citadel Theatre is proud to recognize Wednesday, March 27, as World Theatre Day. Created in 1961 by UNESCO, World Theatre Day is celebrated annually on March 27 by theatre communities around the globe.

Citadel Theatre audiences will witness not one but two World Premieres this month, with the start of Canadian playwright Kat Sandler's interconnected plays March 30. The Candidate and The Party are political comedies running in tandem, taking place in the Maclab Theatre and The Club, respectively. The Candidate focuses on a political candidate facing a massive scandal the night before an election, while The Party is a political fundraiser where audience members mingle with cast members as they reveal secrets and put political shenanigans in motion.

Matilda The Musical is coming to Edmonton this month. The stage adaptation of Roald Dahl's beloved children's story is a delightful spectacle filled with music, magic, and maggots (or children, as they are more commonly known). After a sold-out run in Winnipeg, this co-production with Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre and Arts Club Theatre Company runs February 16 to March 17 in the Shoctor Theatre.

You can take the man out of Italy, but you can't take the Italy out of the man. Edmonton's Farren Timoteo (Citadel's Shakespeare in Love, Peter and the Starcatcher) goes back to his Italian family roots in the hilarious coming-of-age story Made in Italy.

Singer Alison MacDonald will pay tribute to the most beloved songstresses to ever hit the stage at Carnegie Hall during her Beyond the Stage performance this month. During Legends of Carnegie Hall, MacDonald will sing popular tunes from chanteuses such as Patsy Cline, Judy Garland, Liza Minelli, Bette Midler, Carole King, Ella Fitzgerald, and more. MacDonald will be joined by special guests Rachel Bowron (Friday and Sunday performances) and Celeigh Cardinal (Saturday performance). 

The Citadel Theatre is pleased to announce the four Edmonton playwrights participating in THE LAB for our 2018-19 Season. Reneltta Arluk, Beth Graham, Darrin Hagen, and Kenneth T. Williams will be a part of this year's LAB, led by Edmonton playwright and dramaturg David van Belle.

The Citadel's hit production Hadestown led all shows at the 31st annual Elizabeth Sterling Haynes Award nominations. The ground-breaking musical, which received international attention from the New York Times, the Stage (U.K.), and the Globe and Mail, garnered a total of eight nominations, including the Timothy Ryan Award for Outstanding Production of a Musical. Tony Award nominee Rachel Chavkin received a nod for Outstanding Director for Hadestown, which she co-created with folk musician Anais Mitchell. Amber Gray is nominated for Outstanding Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role for her turn as Persephone in this musical, based on a Greek myth and steeped in the music traditions of American Folk and New Orleans jazz. Liam Robinson is nominated for Outstanding Musical Director, and David Neumann received recognition in the category of Outstanding Choreography or Fight Direction. Tony Award winner Bradley King is nominated for Outstanding Lighting Design. Rachel Hauck received a nomination for Outstanding Set Design and Michael Krass received a nod for Outstanding Costume Design.

The Citadel Theatre's Artistic Director, Daryl Cloran, and Executive Director, Chantell Ghosh, announced today the Beyond The Stage (BTS) Series line-up for the 2018/19 Season. This year's series will include six outstanding presentations that push the boundaries of traditional theatre through experimentation; from shows that tell stories in song to a production in which the actor is handed the script for the first time when he or she steps on the stage. BTS even includes a project that takes place everywhere in the Citadel except the theatres. BTS 2018/19 features celebrated international artists, local celebrities, exciting new work and the return of Made In Italy (back by popular demand!).

High-flying aerial acrobatics, archery, sword fights, a brand new script from Edmonton playwright Mieko Ouchi, and an original score composed by Canadian rocker Hawksley Workman - the Citadel's last Mainstage show of the 2017/18 season features all of this, and more! The World Premiere of The Silver Arrow: The Untold Story of Robin Hood is set to take over the Maclab Theatre April 21, 2018.

Bard on the Beach Shakespeare Festival launches its 29th season with a lineup of four exciting play productions and a range of entertaining special events, in the spectacular waterfront setting of Vanier Park. Located in Vancouver, British Columbia, tickets for all performances and special events, scheduled from June 6 through September 22, are now on sale.
