The peculiarity of the Wormwood household, the magic of Matilda's powers, and the bone-shaking wrath of Miss Trunchbull was felt by readers and audiences near and far. This month, Arts Club brought Roald Dahl's classic tale to life with its production of MATILDA THE MUSICAL. Playing at the Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage in Vancouver from May 16th to July 14th, Arts Club does not disappoint with this truly remarkable show.

Citadel Theatre audiences will witness not one but two World Premieres this month, with the start of Canadian playwright Kat Sandler's interconnected plays March 30. The Candidate and The Party are political comedies running in tandem, taking place in the Maclab Theatre and The Club, respectively. The Candidate focuses on a political candidate facing a massive scandal the night before an election, while The Party is a political fundraiser where audience members mingle with cast members as they reveal secrets and put political shenanigans in motion.

Matilda The Musical is coming to Edmonton this month. The stage adaptation of Roald Dahl's beloved children's story is a delightful spectacle filled with music, magic, and maggots (or children, as they are more commonly known). After a sold-out run in Winnipeg, this co-production with Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre and Arts Club Theatre Company runs February 16 to March 17 in the Shoctor Theatre.

Citadel Theatre Honoured With 30 Elizabeth Sterling Haynes Award Nominations

The Citadel's hit production Hadestown led all shows at the 31st annual Elizabeth Sterling Haynes Award nominations. The ground-breaking musical, which received international attention from the New York Times, the Stage (U.K.), and the Globe and Mail, garnered a total of eight nominations, including the Timothy Ryan Award for Outstanding Production of a Musical. Tony Award nominee Rachel Chavkin received a nod for Outstanding Director for Hadestown, which she co-created with folk musician Anais Mitchell. Amber Gray is nominated for Outstanding Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role for her turn as Persephone in this musical, based on a Greek myth and steeped in the music traditions of American Folk and New Orleans jazz. Liam Robinson is nominated for Outstanding Musical Director, and David Neumann received recognition in the category of Outstanding Choreography or Fight Direction. Tony Award winner Bradley King is nominated for Outstanding Lighting Design. Rachel Hauck received a nomination for Outstanding Set Design and Michael Krass received a nod for Outstanding Costume Design.

Media Citadel Theatre Launches 2018/19 BTS Series

The Citadel Theatre's Artistic Director, Daryl Cloran, and Executive Director, Chantell Ghosh, announced today the Beyond The Stage (BTS) Series line-up for the 2018/19 Season. This year's series will include six outstanding presentations that push the boundaries of traditional theatre through experimentation; from shows that tell stories in song to a production in which the actor is handed the script for the first time when he or she steps on the stage. BTS even includes a project that takes place everywhere in the Citadel except the theatres. BTS 2018/19 features celebrated international artists, local celebrities, exciting new work and the return of Made In Italy (back by popular demand!).
