WaterTower Theatre Artistic Director Joanie Schultz today announced casting and creative team details for the Regional Premiere of Karen Zacarias' Native Gardens, directed by David Lozano. Native Gardens will run June 2-25, 2017, in the Canterbury Family Main Stage at the Addison Theatre Centre. The cast features Stephanie Cleghorn Jasso as Tania Del Valle, Ivan Jasso as Pablo Del Valle, Lois Sonnier Hart as Virginia Butley, and John S. Davies as Frank Butley.

Prior to my attendance at Dallas Theater Center's DREAMGIRLS this weekend, my familiarity with the show was based on the 2006 motion picture and the 2001 Actors Fund concert recording (not to mention the Tony Awards clip featuring Jennifer Holliday). Basically knowing only the film, I had often considered how smoothly the stage show could handle the onstage to backstage transitions, given the fast-paced musical score it followed. And, although the DTC production offers a slick, seamless interpretation of the piece, I'm afraid I left the theatre with the impression that the (gasp) movie adaptation was superior to the stage version. That being said, there are still many reasons to head to the Wyly to see this production.

Dallas Theater Center announced today complete details for the award-winning hit musical Dreamgirls. This modern-day classic is led by director and DTC Associate Artistic Director Joel Ferrell. Dreamgirls will begin with a Pay-What-You-Can performance on Friday, June 10 and will run through Sunday, July 24. Since 2010, SEUSSICAL has been listed as one of the top five musicals most frequently performed in the United States. By the time I entered Casa Manana's auditorium last weekend to see SEUSSICAL JR (a version that has been shortened for younger attention spans), it took both hands to count the number of times I personally had seen the show. Luckily for me, this version of the show is packed with some of DFW's top professional talent, and a handful of the most skilled 'Casa Kids' rounding out the talented ensemble.

WaterTower Theatre Producing Artistic Director and Loop Executive Producer Terry Martin today announced details for the WaterTower Theatre produced 24-HR Play Festival.  The event, to be held on Saturday, March 5 at 8 pm in the Main Stage, will include playwrights Devin Berg, Ruth Cantrell, Daniel Garcia and Brandi L. McDowell.

WaterTower Theatre Producing Artistic Director Terry Martin today announced casting and creative team details for the regional premiere of Lord of the Flies, directed by Kelsey Leigh Ervi. The production, based on the William Golding novel and adapted for the stage by Nigel Williams, will run January 22 - February 14, 2016. The timeless musical FIDDLER ON THE ROOF has moved audiences to 'happiness and tears' for more than five decades in theatres all over the world. The current production at Casa Mañana seemed to arouse those same emotions in theatregoers on opening weekend, even if this particular production isn't up to Casa's typical standards.
