Cake Productions presents the New York premiere of This Lingering Life, an epic comedy with grave tragedies byChiori Miyagawa. The play enjoyed its world premiere at Z Space in San Francisco in June. Directed by Cat Miller, this is the inaugural production of the company's 5th anniversary season. Performances begin tonight, September 12th with an official opening set for Thursday, September 18th at HERE. The production is scheduled to run through Saturday, October 4th. Once in a while you see an actor whose performance just blows you away. That happened when I saw A.R. Gurney's Far East for the third time and Vanessa Kai was cast as The Reader. A few years later I saw her perform in the physically demanding and emotionally wrenching two-person show, An Infinite Ache, about a couple who meet, marry and grow old together.

Cake Productions has announced the New York premiere of This Lingering Life, an epic comedy with grave tragedies by Chiori Miyagawa. The play enjoyed its world premiere at Z Space in San Francisco in June where The San Francisco Examiner called it 'a funny, wise, philosophical and thought-provoking puzzle,' while The San Francisco Bay Guardian said it was 'remarkably successful, and cumulatively powerful.' Directed by Cat Miller, this is the inaugural production of the company's 5th anniversary season. Performances will begin on Friday, September 12th with an official opening set for Thursday, September 18th at HERE. The production is scheduled to run through Saturday, October 4th.

Emily Morse to Succeed Todd London as Artistic Director of New Dramatists

New Dramatists,Tony® Honor recipient and the nation's premiere playwright development workshop, announces that Emily Morse will assume the position of Artistic Director beginning in July. Morse, on staff at New Dramatists since 2001 and currently serving as Director of Artistic Development, assumes the position from Todd London who leaves New Dramatists after eighteen years to become the Executive Director/Professor of Drama at the University of Washington where he'll oversee undergraduate, MFA and PhD programs, training and productions. London's appointment is awaiting final approval by the university Board of Regent's.

Jam ON TOAST, One-Minute Play Festival & More Set for New Georges' 2014 Season

New Georges' 22nd production year will spotlight on The New Georges Jam ON TOAST at Dixon Place, a new play festival that will feature work by the New Georges Jam, a "performance gym" for early-career playwrights and directors founded at New Georges in 2010 by Lucy Alibar(Beasts of the Southern Wild), Jess Chayes (HOME/SICK) and Portia Krieger (Eager to Lose). The New Georges Jam ON TOAST will feature 19 Jammers past and present - including two playwrights receiving their first New York productions. But first New Georges will kick things off with The 1st George Sand Invitational One-Minute Play Festival, the first all-women edition of the nationwide One-Minute Play Festival, January 13th & 14th at INTAR Theatre, featuring one-minute plays by over 50 female playwrights. The '14 season will also feature a special collaboration between New Georges and Barnard College in March, New Plays at Barnard, which will bring downtown artists and the new-play experience to students at Barnard and Columbia.
