In a time of uncertainty for the country and for the arts, Portland Playhouse put out a call to local artists to open our hearts and broaden our perspectives. The result is Wonderland, a virtual festival of four short new works that directly engage with our current socio-political landscape from the perspective of WONDER.

REDWOOD Comes to Portland Center Stage

This October, Brittany K. Allen will star in the world premiere of her play Redwood at Portland Center Stage at The Armory. In Redwood, a young Black woman's relationship with her white boyfriend is thrown into turmoil when her uncle's exploration of their family's lineage reveals that her ancestors were enslaved by her boyfriend's ancestors. Guided by a hip-hop dance class chorus, this singular American story is about finding a way to live and love in a present that's overpopulated with ghosts.
Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall Receives Charles & Margery Barancik Foundation Grant

The Van Wezel Foundation is proud to accept a grant from the Charles & Margery Barancik Foundation on behalf of the Performing Arts Hall Education & Community Engagement Department for the upcoming MAIN Stage Project in 2019. The grant totals $28,120 and will support arts-based educational outreach efforts in collaboration with Girls Inc. during the Van Wezel's highly-anticipated three-week run of Disney's THE LION KING.
