TheatreLAB, Richmond's home for unexpected and evocative performance, is proud to host a one night only staged reading of Wendy Wassersteins' The Heidi Chronicles, as a farewell to Associate Artistic Director,McLean Jesse (Best Actress - 2016 Style Weekly Readers Poll, Best Actress - 2015 Richmond Theatre Critics Circle Award). Directed by James Ricks, the reading and accompanying art auction will take place on July 24th at TheatreLAB's venue, The Basement.

Virginia Repertory Theatre's DREAMGIRLS opened June 24 at the Sara Belle and Neil November Theatre, 114 West Broad Street. The production runs through August 7, 2016. With music by Henry Krieger and lyrics and book byTom Eyen, this megawatt Broadway crowd-pleaser electrifies the stage with Motown dreams and powerhouse voices. Virginia Repertory Theatre announces the opening of The Color Purple at the Sara Belle and Neil November Theatre, 114 West Broad Street on Friday, June 20, 2014 with a Preview on Thursday, June 19. The show runs through August 3, 2014. Based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Alice Walker, this joyful musical and epic story follows the life and personal awakening of Celie, a downtrodden young African American woman. With a book by Marsha Norman and music and lyrics by Brenda Russell, Allee Willis, and Stephen Bray, the uplifting score features jazz, ragtime, gospel, African music and blues. The Broadway production earned eleven Tony nominations.

Speech & Debate will be directed by Artistic Director Deejay Gray, and will be performed at Richmond Triangle Players, today, August 9-14, 2013. Cadence Theatre Company recently produced Karam's Sons of the Prophet as part of the 2013-2014 Acts of Faith Festival.

With enough of a fan base to generate the nearly $20,000 needed to fully-fund its production in less than two weeks on its Kickstarter.com pledge site, Shadowbox Live's self-created musical, 'Underland' opened to a not-surprisingly sold-out crowd last night. The original script, created by Shadowbox Head Writer, Jimmy Mak, is inspired by 'Alice In Wonderland', but instead tells the tale of Albert Ice (Robbie Nance), a Vietnam veteran who is searching for his lost daughter in the 60's hippie culture of San Francisco's Haight-Ashbury District. While it has the feel of Shadowbox's fabulous, 'Back to the Garden' in its opening scenes, this show immediately takes a much darker, mind-bending tone, and it's difficult to tell what is a drug-trip gone wrong, and what is Ice's completely warped post-traumatic stress-induced reality.

Swift Creek Mill Theatre presents Marvelous Wonderettes by Roger Bean. The Mill produced the holiday sequel to this show two years ago - now we bring you the terrific show that started it all! Tom Width directs with musical direction by Paul Diess, lights by Joe Doran and costumes by Maura Lynch Cravey. The show runs September 13 through October 20, 2012.
