American Repertory Theater of WNY is presenting a special two-night staged reading of Buffalo-based playwright Matthew LaChiusa's dark comedy, FRED's REQUIEM. This vignette based work featuring grapes, a wake, and dirty family secrets will be presented at the company's 330 Amherst Street performance space on January 26th & 27th, 8 pm.

This pioneering and legendary rock opera is loosely based on the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John accounting the last week of Jesus Christ's life. Andrew Lloyd Webber's music and Tim Rice's lyrics dynamically explores the personal relationships and struggles between Jesus, Judas, Mary Magdalene, his disciples, his followers and the Roman Empire.

American Repertory Theater of WNY has appointed Buffalo actor, director and Artistic Director for the West Seneca Youth Theatre company, Candice Kogut as Artistic Director. 'Am completely confident in naming Candice as Artistic Director for this company.' Executive Director Matthew LaChiusa on Ms. Kogut's appointment. 'Based on her work ethic on stage, seeing solid management of her Youth Theatre group, her dedication to the Dramatic Arts, and commitment to taking this company to new levels, naming her to be the new Artistic Director wasn't a difficult decision to make.'

The second production scheduled for American Repertory Theater of WNY's 2017-18 season features American playwright Aaron Posner's 2013 adaptation of Anton Chekhov's 1896 play THE SEAGULL entitled Stupid F**CKING BIRD. Directed by ART/WNY alumni Michael Lodick (JESUS HATES ME), STUPID F**CKING BIRD will open on October 19th and run to November 11th.

American Repertory Theater of WNY will roll out the company's eleventh season with an artistic direction emphasizing three productions by Western New York playwrights, presenting a contemporary comedic adaptation on a dramatic classic bore, and bringing a legendary rock-opera to ART/WNY's stage.

American Repertory Theater of WNY concludes the 2016-17 theatrical season with a presentation of playwright Martin McDonagh's A BEHANDING IN SPOKANE from May 4th to May 27th, Thursday through Saturday at 8pm at 330 Amherst St., Buffalo. This seedy dark-comedy of a seedy one-handed man's odyssey to find his missing hand in a seedy hotel room with two equally seedy visitors (then things really get weird...in a seedy way). Director Matthew LaChiusa, actors Candice Kogut (who play 'Marilyn') and Shabar Rouse (who plays 'Toby') took some time away from rehearsals to answer questions about McDonagh's bizarre story, set somewhere in Anytown USA, that features some extreme characters.

Get your technicolored lederhosen ready for an evening to laugh away those red, white and blues! Continuing toApril 1st is Steve Martin's hilarious THE UNDERPANTS. Directed by Artie Award winning director Jeffrey Coyle (FLOYD COLLINS & BLOODY BLOODY ANDREW JACKSON), this tale of bloomers, royalty, sausage and German foreplay is guaranteed to make you laugh loudly, try to repressed a laugh that come out as a rambunctious snort, or giggle like a like schoolgirl. Tickets are $20 GA, $15 Students & Military Veterans. Thursday features a $10 GA ticket price throughout the run.

The result was the work being initially prevented from opening then later DIE HOSE, and his other works, were completely banned when the Nazis rose to power. All this because of Sternheim's indelicate views on German society.

Coming off a winter hiatus, the American Repertory Theater of WNY continues the celebration of the company's tenth season and the second-half of the 2016-17 season with renowned comic actor and author of PICASSO AT LAPIN AGILE, Steve Martin's wild satire adaptation of the classic 1910 German farce DIE HOSE by the playwright Carl Sternheim.

A great week of general auditions and callbacks for the 2016-17 season with 60+ talented individuals attending the two-night and three days of callbacks seeking to fill roles for all four ART/WNY productions. Maura Nolan, director for Halley Fieffer's HOW TO MAKE FRIENDS AND THEN KILL THEM, Jeffrey Coyle, director for Steve Martin's THE UNDERPANTS, Matthew LaChiusa, director for A BEHANDING IN SPOKANE and alongside Billy Horn, musical director for AMERICAN IDIOT, had the difficult decision to chose from all those who attended. Once the dust settled, two of the four shows have been fully cast with the other two in the process of finalizing cast lists.
