The 14th Annual Great Plains Theatre Conference is almost here! Opening May 26 and running through June 1, this is an ideal place to participate in workshops, develop your skills as a playwright or a theatre professional, or simply watch some excellent new plays.

Consider the inconceivable.

The Brigit Saint Brigit Theatre Company opens UNCLE VANYA at the Joslyn Castle. The stellar cast under the able direction of Cathy Kurz perfectly carries out Chekhov's desire for naturalism. They do not overact. There is no melodrama or big gestures. They feel the emotion and it is exposed. This is stripped down genuine humanity and it is truly special.

Here's an oft-proven truism, if not a fact, about theater in Nashville: If Martha Wilkinson is the star of a particular show - any show, whether it's Noises Off, Chicago, Little Shop of Horrors, Sister Act (well, you get my drift) - you can rest assured that she will (A) play the role to the hilt, (B) knock your socks off with her timing and delivery and (C) you'll believe that, no matter how many times you've seen a show, any show, it was as if you were seeing it for the first time.

In 1949, Death of a Salesman explored the disillusionment of the American dream. Arena Stage's new play Sweat will expand on that theme and the adversity experienced by one community as rumors of layoffs swirl at a local steel mill.
