Ian McKellen BIO

McKellen is recognised worldwide as Magneto in the X-Men films and Gandalf in Tolkien's Middle Earth films. He won his first Oscar nomination as Best Actor, as the gay film director James Whale, in Bill Condon's 1998 classic "Gods and Monsters". Since he has starred in The Da Vinci Code", "Mr Holmes", "Beauty and the Beast", with "CATS" yet to come.
In Shakespeare he has triumphed as Richard II, Macbeth (with Judi Dench), Coriolanus, Iago, Richard III (also on film) and most recently as King Lear. He was in the first of Martin Sherman's sensational "Bent" and premieres of plays by Arnold Wesker, Peter Shaffer, Michael Frayn, Alan Ayckbourn and Mark Ravenhill. Of late he has been Widow Twankey in the Old Vic's "Aladdin" pantomime and toured "Waiting for Godot" and "No Man's Land" with Patrick Stewart. As Salieri in "Amadeus" he won the Tony Award in 1981.

Concert Performances of BEAUTY AND THE BEAST and THE JUNGLE BOOK Will Be Performed at New Wimbledon Theatre


The Novello Orchestra will present two classic Disney films in concert this summer, Beauty and the Beast and The Jungle Book will be performed live to film as part of Wimbledon Childrens Festival. Beauty and the Beast will take place on 10th August, with showings at 3pm and 7pm and The Jungle Book the following day on the 11th August, with showings at 10am and 3pm.

Paul Bettany Will Play Antonio Salieri in Series Adaptation of AMADEUS


According to a new report, Paul Bettany, who was recently seen on Broadway in The Collaboration, has just joined the upcoming limited series Amadeus. Based on the life of composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, the series takes inspiration from Peter Shaffer's Tony-winning play of the same name and is written by Joe Barton and Julian Farino of British crime drama Giri/Haji.
