TONGUES A'WAGGING Storytelling Event Returns in July

Donna Carbone, the Managing Director of the Burt Reynolds Institute, announced that she is looking for eight story tellers for the third Tongues a'Wagging - Community Storytelling Event. Back by popular demand, this production follows closely on the success of the February and April shows.

Tongues a'Wagging is a unique opportunity for residents of Palm Beach County to tell their personal stories to an eager audience. The topic for the July event is Lessons I Have Learned from Life. It will be held on Saturday evening, July 20, 2019, at 7 pm. The cost for tickets is $20.00 and will include a talk back with the storytellers at the end of the evening. There is no charge to submit a story for this event.

In a recent interview, Carbone said, "These events are so popular that tickets sell out quickly. The audience loves sharing in the intimate details of the storytellers lives, and they quickly realize that, despite our outward differences, inside we are all the same. Everyone has experienced joy and sorrow. Everyone has tasted success and failure. It is empowering to know that we are not alone in this world."

To be a part of the July event, which will undergo a juried selection process, potential participants must submit their 1200 word essay on the topic (Lessons I Have Learned from Life) no later than July 6th.

"I chose Life's Lessons as a topic for the evening after hearing the feedback from our last Tongues a'Wagging. There was so much emotion in the room at the end of the evening... people were laughing and crying. The audience couldn't wait to introduce themselves to the storytellers. To make a personal connection... To start a conversation. No one wanted to leave. It was very rewarding for me to see that my dream of bringing people together was worthwhile."

The stories submitted to the selection committee must be true and they must be personal. Storytellers must write about themselves - not about someone else. All stories will be edited for time and content. They will be rehearsed prior to the show so that even the most novice public speaker can have their moment in the spotlight without their knees knocking.

For complete rules and regulations, send an email marked SUBMISSION: TONGUES A'WAGGING to: briftfinancedirector@comcast.net. A DO and DON'T list will be sent which will explain exactly what a story must include. The deadline for submissions is July 6th. Tickets go on sale on July 1st.

The Institute's theater is small... only 40 seats... and Carbone said attendees at past Tongues a'Wagging shows call the minute they receive the email announcing the next show. She advises people to call early to reserve their space.
