Unicorn Afterlife
by Justin Perkins
A humming. A jagged light scars the blackness. The world slowly comes into focus, but it's not the world at all. A unicorn, that beast of pure goodness, wakes in a black void and discovers, horrified, that it's dead. A figure appears, great and terrible, and offers the unicorn a bargain: you may return to the life you lived, but first you must relive your memories and judge for yourself whether you deserve a second chance to live in the world you love.
Babcia, or a Wild Woman
by Gabrielle Schutz and Company
Babcia, or a Wild Woman by any Other Name makes visceral, in our imaginations and bodies, the psychic tasks of becoming free. This new work of contemporary performance is inspired by inter-generational female relationships, my own wild Babcia (Grandmother in Polish), and the book Women Who Run With the Wolves by Clarissa Pinkola Estes, PhD. Using the feminine myths and stories passed down to us, we put ourselves through the trials of our own heroic journey. Dance and puppetry weaves a visual narrative as we explore the ancient problems of the modern woman...and dance on the grave of anyone in our way.
Garden of Florine
by Patti Bradshaw
A work-in-progress portrait of the prolific painter, poet, set designer Florine Stettheimer (1871-1944).Movement, projections and puppetry for 3 actors a parrot and a toy piano. Forine Stettheimer managed to live a droll, privileged art-making life defined by cultural salons for eccentric personalities of the day while the lives of many in the world were filled with suffering and lack. Focusing specifically on Florine, the shy and sophisticated personality who loved Marcel Duchamp and worked with Gertrude Stein, Stettheimer’s paintings serve as snapshots of their time couched in highly editorial artifice. This performance brings to life the contrast between these simultaneously existing worlds in a live dreamlike painting.
