Funsch Dance’s latest quintet, kid subjunctive, posits voice as a means of “futurist worlding.” Through sound-activation of our desire, we attempt to build new models for performance. kid subjunctive is a piece that does not yet exist. The work unfolds as its making unfolds, until we arrive at a potential beginning. kid subjunctive features performances by Gabby Duncan, Christy Funsch, Emily Hansel, Zoe Huey, and Phoenicia Pettyjohn. Each of the performers contributes to the work’s soundscore; Christy Funsch fills out the score with electric guitar. kid subjunctive is made possible in part with public funds from the Queens Arts Fund, a re-grant program supported by the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council and administered by the New York Foundation for the Arts. Feeling for the edge in the dark Is a new work from Dr. Evilletown exploring what it means to continually search for something you can not see, in contrast with “going through the motions”. This performance experience combines live sound, movement, and video. How can we merge our dream life with our realities? Working towards goals, or seeking a higher power, can feel separate from what we are actually doing: providing for our families, working, routine chores.
