KILLDEER, the bird (Charadrius Vociferous), pretends to have a broken wing to lure predators away from its nest. KILLDEER, the musical work, is a multi-movement Spoken Word piece that explores themes such as fatherhood, trauma, and faith. At its core its the poetry of Nick Flynn (narrated by him), which serves as an anchor for the musicians in an unconventional score by Guy Barash. Over the years KILLDEER manifested in various incarnations, each with different players. This performance celebrates the release of KILLDEER on New Focus Recordings featuring Guy Barash, electronics; Nick Flynn, spoken word; Frank London, trumpet; Eyal Maoz, guitar; Kathleen Supové, piano.
