LIFE IS THE ONLY WAY Playing at National Theatret Through 3/27 LIFE IS THE ONLY WAY is playing at National Theatret in Norway now through March 27th, 2019.

Join a journey in life, as the Polish Nobel laureate Wisawa Szymborska reveals.

Polish poet Wisawa Szymborska's poem is a gift to discover. She writes wisely and accessible, scarcely and witty about the life we live, the nature and the everyday that surrounds us. Wondering she describes the clouds in the sky, the silence of the plants, the teenager, the puddle, the hand or the handset. "She manages to capture the meaninglessness and sadness of life, yet be life-threatening," Woody Allen said of her. "The Mozart of the Poetry," the Nobel Prize Committee concluded when the modest old lady received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1996.

In Poland, Wisawa Szymborska is a folk tale. In Norway she is less known. In the performance Life is the only way you now get the opportunity to get acquainted with this remarkable woman who was able to place all aspects of life between the lines of the poems she wrote.

Dutch director Jos Groenier lets the text stand in the center of what becomes a scenic collage. Here, all elements - directing, scenography, Jan Garbarek and Kjetil Bjerkestrand's music, video projection, lighting and acting - build up under the words of Szymborska, whether it be poems, notes or any of the limericks Szymborska enjoyed writing. More than one performance, this will be a journey in life, as Szymborska reveals it.

On the stage you will meet Ellen Horn, Gisken Armand and Henriette Marø. They do not represent Szymborska himself, but rather three different states of life - which according to the Polish poet are arbitrary and on loan, but still the only way.
