THEY CALL IT GRAVY; WE CALL IT SAUCE! - Middletown Arts Center

NJ auditions for the 5th New Jersey run of the Perry Award-nominated original musical,

“They Call It Gravy; WE Call It SAUCE!”

Auditions will be held on Saturday, April 27 at Middletown Arts Center, Middletown, New Jersey

Storyline: First-generation, New York-born Rosa Garraffa, discovers she’s pregnant by her Jewish fiancé. Her traditional Sicilian father disowns and banishes her. Twenty years later, Rosa’s Jewish-raised daughter, Barbara, along with her Brooklyn-born Neapolitan boyfriend, Matt, step into the picture and attempt to reunite the broken family.

Casting the following:

ZIO VITO: Supporting role. Caucasian. Age 42-48, Average build, 5'6-5'10. The character immigrated from Sicily to New York's Little Italy and speaks with a slight Italian/broken English accent. The character recites some words and phrases in Sicilian, therefore, some knowledge of the Sicilian or Italian languages would be extremely helpful. Vocals: Strong low to mid-range with a strong vibrato.

MARIA VOLPE: Supporting. Caucasian. Slim/average; 42-48, ageless Mediterranean beauty. Dark hair, shoulder-length or longer; this character speaks English with a heavy Italian accent and recites words and phrases in Neapolitan Dialect. Therefore, a knowledge of the Neapolitan Dialect language would be extremely helpful, also proficiency in the Italian language. Vocals: Strong low to mid-range with a strong vibrato.

BENJAMIN GOLDMAN: Supporting role. Caucasian. Average. Age 48-52. The character is a very successful businessman and co-owner of a large aerospace corporation. He is tall and youthful-looking. Some singing experience desired.

YOUNGER DANTE: Supporting role. Caucasian. Slim, 20-22, 5'6-5'9. The character is a high school senior in the 50s and the younger version of a Sicilian immigrant. He is macho with medium-length dark hair. Applicants must be experienced singers and the ability to read music is desired. Dancing experience is also desired. Applicants must closely match the character’s physical description as stated.

EDDIE JONES: Supporting/Stage Crew. Average, 28-40. The character is the bartender and club owner. Vocals: Strong low to mid-range with a strong vibrato.
