The Fort Lauderdale Speaker Series began in 2013. Presented by Broward College, past speakers have included Bob Woodward, John Forbes and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Among the many great names to take to the stage at the Au-Rene Theater in 2015 will be former South African President Frederik Willem de Klerk.
Head of State from 1989 - 1994, de Klerk's reign saw the release of Nelson Mandela and the end of the Apartheid regime. When Mandela was later voted in as South Africa's first ever black President, de Klerk served as his vice President for two years. The two men were jointly awarded 1993's Nobel Peace Prize for their efforts. He'll be discussing his extraordinary career and his views on the political and social landscape of the world some 25 years on.
