Ogunquit Playhouse Children's Theatre Kicks Off Season with Disney's CINDERELLA KIDS

The Ogunquit Playhouse is announcing a sensational lineup of Children's Theatre productions beginning June 29. The 2019 Children's Theatre season kicks off with the beloved fairy tale classic Disney's Cinderella Kids, followed by a modern Disney classic Frozen, Jr., and finally, the delightful Madagascar - A Magical Musical Adventure Jr. by Dream Works. Children's Theatre productions are professionally designed and produced, and feature performances by the talented Ogunquit Playhouse Junior Players Camp students. Each production is perfect for children of all ages!

The Junior Players spend their camp sessions learning everything from acting, singing and dancing to understanding lighting, sound cues and blocking movements on stage with professional directors and choreographers. Following their one or two week-long camp session, they perform on the Ogunquit Playhouse mainstage with sets and costumes created by the theatre's professional production team. Disney's Cinderella Kids is on stage for two performances only; Saturday, June 29 at 10AM and Sunday, June 30 at 10AM. Cinderella is endlessly mistreated by her wicked stepmother and stepsisters and denied a chance to go to the royal ball. With a little help from her mice friends and a lot of help from her Fairy Godmother, Cinderella's dreams come true. She goes to the ball, meets the Prince, and falls in love! Don't miss this timeless fairytale that includes songs from the beloved Disney animated film including, "A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes" and the classic "Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo." Disney's Cinderella Kids will charm its way into your heart, and remind you that dreams really do come true!

Next up are six performances of the modern classic Disney's Frozen Jr. which hits the stage Saturday, July 27 at 10AM and 1PM; Sunday, July 28 at 10AM; Saturday, August 3 at 10AM and 1PM; and Sunday, August 4 at 10AM. The enchanting modern classic from Disney is based on the 2018 Broadway hit musical, and brings Elsa, Anna, Olaf and the magical land of Arendelle to life, onstage. The show features all of the memorable songs from the animated film written by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, plus five new songs written for the Broadway production. A story of true love and acceptance between sisters, Frozen Jr. expands upon the emotional relationship and journey between Princesses Anna and Elsa. When faced with danger, the two discover their hidden potential and the powerful bond of sisterhood. With a cast of beloved characters and loaded with magic, adventure, and lots of humor, Frozen Jr. is sure to thaw even the coldest heart!

The final Children's Theatre production of the season takes audiences on a journey out of the zoo and into Madagascar - A Musical Adventure, Jr. on stage Saturday, August 24 at 10AM and 1PM and Sunday, August 25 at 10AM. Join the Junior Players on an unexpected journey to the madcap world of King Julien's Madagascar with your favorite crack-a-lackin' friends from the blockbuster DreamWorks film. Join Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra, Melman the Giraffe, Gloria the hip hip Hippo and, of course, those hilarious, plotting penguins as they go on the musical adventure of a lifetime. Filled with outlandish characters, adventure galore and an upbeat score, Madagascar JR. will leave audiences with no choice but to "Move It, Move It!"

The Ogunquit Playhouse's mainstage season continues with the ultimate tap-dancing, show-biz musical sensation, 42nd Street from June 19 through July 13 and featuring Emmy Award-winner Sally Struthers; the alluring musical Cabaret on stage July 17 through August 10; the first play to grace the Playhouse stage in over a decade, Agatha Christie's Murder on the Orient Express August 14 through August 31; the hilarious Menopause The Musical for two weeks only September 4 through September 14; and the Tony Award-winning, smash hit musical Kinky Boots on stage September 18 through October 27. The season will stretch to the holidays once again with the timeless classic, Annie in collaboration with The Music Hall in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, November 27 through December 22.
