The Public Theatre is announcing an exciting new program to give you an insider's experience of the theatre.

This season, in The Public Theatre Book Club, you'll be reading two scripts: Henrik Ibsen's A Doll's House (preferred adaptation by Frank McGuinness) and Lucas Hnath's critically acclaimed Broadway hit, A Doll's House Part 2.

A Doll's House by Henrik Ibsen. Nora is a typical 1879 housewife and mother, dependent on her husband for everything. When her husband becomes ill, Nora breaks the law for the sake of love so they can have the resources needed for her husband's recovery. When this illegal secret is revealed to her husband, his reaction to the news awakens in Nora an awareness of the illusions on which her marriage is built, driving her to one of the most famous and scandalous moments in 19th century drama. A Doll's House Part 2, is a funny, intelligent and compelling contemporary sequel, set 15 years after A Doll's House, when everyone is a little older and wiser.

The Book Club will include:

· A two hour discussion (with complimentary snacks) lead by Artistic Director Christopher Schario on Sunday, March 3 from 1-3 at The Public Theatre. This lively discussion of themes and content of the plays will include a sneak peek of set and costume designs of A Doll's House Part 2. Did you know Christopher's college thesis was on Henrik Ibsen?

· An invitation to attend a short piece of a rehearsal to watch the script transition from page to stage. Date and time TBA.

· An invitation to attend the Sunday, March 17th matinee performance, followed by the free post-show discussion featuring the actors. If you are not a subscriber, or have not yet purchased a ticket to see A Doll's House Part 2, you can purchase a ticket at the special book club discount rate of $17

· A free study guide.

-If you would like the theatre to purchase one or both scripts for you, they will be $10 each. Script orders must be placed by Feb 8. Most libraries or Ibsen anthologies should include A Doll's House. Although we recommend reading the adaptation by Frank McGuinness, others will do.
