Sureq Galigo, an epic creation myth from the Bugis people of South Sulawesi, might not ring a bell to most Indonesians. But since 2004, American director Robert Wilson has adapted one of its stories into a theatrical experience called I LA GALIGO. And after international runs in 9 countries and 12 cities, I LA GALIGO will return to Indonesian stage at the Ciputra Artpreneur, Jakarta, this July.

Director Robert Wilson had worked together with dramaturgist Rhoda Grauer to adapt a particular narrative thread about the warrior Sawerigading and his twin sister We Tenriabeng. The story told of the star-crossed lovers -- destined to fall deeply in love with each other yet, for fear of a ruin such incestuous love might bring, the Bissu shaman warned against their union.

The story is mainly told through gestural expression and dances, supplemented with narration to provide context. A major aspect of the 2-hour performance is the dramatic lighting design by Robert Wilson. Meanwhile, the show's live music, composed by Javanese composer Rahayu Supanggah for the show, incorporates elements of traditional Bugis music to lend further authenticity and mysticism.

The show will run on four days: 3, 5, 6 and 7 July 2019. On the 3rd (Wednesday) and 5th (Friday), the show will start at 19.30. While on the weekend of 6th and 7th July, the show will start at 15.00.
