Feature: HINDI PLAY OPEN CAST To Premier At NCPA Suppose you were to suddenly uproot yourself and find yourself in a new surrounding amongst strangers. How would you feel? Challenged? Confused? Even scared? Open Cast, a new Hindi play throws open on stage, this and many other dilemmas.

Open Cast is a NCPA presentation and along with D for DRAMA Production, the play promises to show the human side of displacement -- a reality in the current world for many people who are displaced in search for a better or safer life.

The director masterfully touches upon the topic that displacement while at its core is a practical decision it never can be easy to make. The play talks about people who are displaced and how it affects them and their newly forged relationships with strange people and places change their lives.

Writer and director of the play, Sandeep Shikhar says about the play, "Open Cast shows the struggle of people who have to grapple with a new environment - be it because of their own choice, unavoidable circumstances or the decisions of the government. Though the audience watching the play is set in a city starkly different than those shown in the play, each member of the audience will be able to relate to the existential and identity crises that the characters of the play go through. The socially relevant topic of displacement is also something that people's attention needs to be brought to and this play does exactly that in an empathic way, exploring each character intricately."

Interestingly, the play charts the journey of two sets of people -- the ones who leave the coal mines of Dhanbad to come to Delhi. And the dwellers of the cosmopolitan city. When the two very varying paths submerge there is bound to be challenges.

Do check out the play to understand displacement -- a sad reality of the world today.
