Daniel A. Kelin II, Director of Drama Education for Honolulu Theatre for Youth has been awarded a second prestigious Fulbright-Nehru teaching fellowship, this time to work with the National School of Drama, Theatre in Education Wing, in Tripura, India.

For this 2019 Fulbright, Daniel will be working with new and upcoming teaching artists from all over India, exploring with them how to integrate arts experiences into both classroom learning, as well as community-based programs. Daniel has proposed to interrogate questions such as: "How does theatre respond to the needs and interests of children in the 21st century? How do artists effectively engage children through theatre? How can artists help classroom teachers embrace the educational importance of creativity for children?" As Daniel teachers, so will he learn. He hopes to "better understand the role of the arts in the lives of children all around the world, no matter their background or life experiences."

Funding for Fulbright Grants is appropriated annually by the U.S. Congress, with additional funds contributed by partner countries and the private sector. Grants are awarded through a rigorous competitive process.

Honolulu Theatre for Youth is Hawaii's non-profit professional theatre company providing theatre and drama education programs that make a difference in the lives of Hawaii's young people and families.
