Kumu Kahua Theatre Announces Auditions For THE WATCHER OF WALPUNA

Open auditions will be held to cast the fan favorite production of Gary Pak's comedy The Watcher of Waipuna. The show will be directed by Harry Wong III and runs March 21 - April 20th.

Gilbert Sanchez is the Watcher of Waipuna, defending his tiny corner of paradise against evil commercial expansion and greedy family members. Based on Gary Pak's short story, this local fairytale-like parable includes a chorus of housewives and supernatural elements, and examines the powerful connection between humans and the environment-loyalty to our land, connections to place, corporate development, and local displacement.

There will be a free audition workshop held at 6:30pm on Wednesday, February 6th at Kumu Kahua Theatre. This optional workshop is an opportunity for all interested to work with the script and director, learn the best way to prepare for this audition and hone your audition skills.

The workshop is free, but space is limited. To reserve your spot, please call 808-536-4222 or email kumukahuatheatreom@gmail.com.

Director Harry Wong III is looking for 3 male actors ages from 20's to 40's and 8-10 female actors, all ages. Auditions are open to actors of all ethnicities. All actors should be familiar with the story - which can be found here - and dressed to move.

Printed scripts are available for loan with a $10 cash deposit at the Kumu Kahua Theatre office weekdays between 11am and 3pm. Please call 808-536-4222 before coming to the theatre. Electronic scripts for all 48th Season Kumu Kahua productions can be found here. Auditions will consist of readings from the script.

For further information, call the Kumu Kahua Theatre office at 536-4222, or email kumukahuatheatreom@gmail.com.
