Review: GUYS AND DOLLS at Broadway Palm is Lively and Light!

GUYS AND DOLLS at Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre tells two different love stories; one between a missionary, Sarah Brown, and a Broadway gambler, Sky Masterson, and the other between Miss Adelaide, a singer at the Hot Box nightclub, and Nathan Detroit, the operator of the "world's largest floating crap game."

Blaire Baker plays Sarah Brown, and I really enjoyed seeing her character's evolution from being reluctant about her emotions toward Sky Masterson to Review: GUYS AND DOLLS at Broadway Palm is Lively and Light! becoming more open and realizing her feelings, even if she has a hard time deciding whether to act on them. Sky Masterson is played by Grayson Yockey, and like Baker's Sarah Brown, I also enjoyed seeing his character evolve, though he learned about becoming more serious about love, compromise, and pursuit.

Sarah Mae Banning plays Miss Adelaide, and I liked learning Review: GUYS AND DOLLS at Broadway Palm is Lively and Light! more about the depth of her character as the show progressed; she simply wants to get married and have the life she has always dreamed of with the man she loves, but it's hard for her to accept his lifestyle. It's a very bittersweet story, really, and Banning plays this role excellently. Peter Riopelle plays opposite of her as Nathan Detroit, and he did a fantastic job portraying Nathan's reluctance to get married.

GUYS AND DOLLS is a classic, well-known show, and this production of it was done very, very well. The entire ensemble really made the show; all the singing and dancing was thoroughly entertaining, and I have to give Choreographer Amy Marie McCleary credit for the excellent choreography.
