44. Lieutenant-colonel. Married, with two little girls. Loves philosophizing. Loves hating his life. Loves Masha.
[CAPTAIN VASSILY VASILYEVICH SOLYONY]
30s. Captain. So socially awkward he can come across as aggressive. Also in love with Irina.
[IVAN ROMANICH CHEBUTYKIN]
60. Army doctor. Long-standing friend of the family. Still in love with the sisters' dead mother. A drunk.

[OLGA SERGEYEVNA PROZOROVA]
Role CAST. 28. The oldest sister. A school teacher. Later, headmistress. Unmarried. Plagued by migraines and a martyrdom complex. Ferociously loving. Reliably self-pitying.
[MARIA SERGEYEVNA KULYGINA (MASHA)]
Role CAST. 25. The middle sister. A trained concert pianist. Doesn't do that anymore. Or anything, really. Married to Kulygin, whom she hates. Moody, spiky, dreamy.
[IRINA SERGEYEVNA PROZOROVA]
20. The youngest sister. The only one capable of anything close to optimism. Unfortunately, also capable of deep despair and a wildly childish sense of entitlement.
[ANDREY SERGEYEVICH PROZOROV]
Role CAST. 30. The brother. An intellectual. A violinist. A willing volunteer for emotional castration at the hands of the women in his life.
[NATALIA IVANOVNA (NATASHA)]
Role CAST. 28. Andrey's love interest. Later, his wife. Well-intentioned, if uncouth. Later, conniving. Insecure.
[FYODOR ILYICH KULYGIN]
Role CAST. Late 30s. Masha's husband. A Latin teacher. Maddeningly officious. Desperately in love with his wife.
[BARON NIKOLAI LVOVICH TUZENBACH]
Role CAST. Early 30s. Lieutenant. An honorary member of the Prozorov family. Seems pretty gay. Is not. In love with Irina.
[ANFISA]
Role CAST. 81. The sisters' former nanny, now their servant. Not great at what she does since she is close to death. Sweet. Tired.
[FERAPONT]
Role CAST. 80s. Door-keeper at the city council offices. Hard of hearing. Done with living, pretty much. Knows a lot of trivia.
