SEEKING
Equity actors for various roles.
We are committed to inclusive casting for all roles and as such we are seeking actors of all races, ethnicities, cultures, and abilities. All actors must have a STRONG command of classical text.
Both the PSM and ASM positions have been filled at this time.
PREPARATION
Please prepare one SHORT (no more than two minutes in length) Shakespeare monologue. Bring picture and resume.

BREAKDOWN
CAIUS MARTIUS CORIOLANUS:
Late 30’s-50. Male. Proud. Immensely charismatic. A fearsome general who has built a career on protecting Rome from its enemies. Pushed by his ambitious mother to seek the position of consul, Coriolanus is at odds with the masses and unpopular with their leaders. His temperament is unsuited for popular leadership and when he is quickly deposed, he aligns himself to set matters straight according to his own will. When a riot results in his expulsion from Rome, Coriolanus seeks out his sworn enemy, Tullus Aufidius. Together, the pair vow to destroy the great city. A role for a dynamic leading actor with enormous language skills and emotional range.
VOLUMNIA:
60’s+ Female. Roman. Mother to Coriolanus. Steely. Powerful. Proud. Persuasive. She values bravery and honor before all else and constantly urges her son towards aggression. She has enormous power and influence in his military, political and domestic life and knows it. A consummate matriarch. A role for a leading actress with great command of classical text who is equal parts loving and a dominant authoritative figure.
TULLUS AUFIDIUS:
Late 30’s – 40’s. Male. General of the Volscians. He has spent years fighting and losing to Coriolanus and wants more than ever to bring him down. He is in every way a match for Coriolanus; physically imposing, skillful, courageous, a determined warrior. Mentally and physically, he is a killing machine.
MENENIUS AGRIPPA:
50’s-60’s. Male. Roman. A politician and patrician who has always been loved by the common people. Humorist. Extrovert. Zealous in his advice. Someone grown enough to feel like a surrogate parental figure to Coriolanus but still fit and physically capable enough for it to be believable that they have fought in battles together at some time. A role for an actor with great command of classical text and access to great humor.
TITUS LARTIUS and COMINIUS:
50’s-60’s. Any gender. Fit. Roman generals who fight with Coriolanus against the Volscians. Strong in both spirit and appearance, these are career military people of aristocratic birth.
SICINIUS VELUTUS and JUNIUS BRUTUS:
30’s-40’s. Any gender. Romans. Tribunes of the people. Ambitious. Tough. Manipulative. Discontented with Coriolanus’ dealings with the people, they conspire, as their leaders, to bring on his demise.
VIRGILIA:
30’s. Female. Wife to Coriolanus. Devoted, serious, unsure, frightened of the war. Not frail but not quite strong enough to be a great warrior’s wife.
VALERIA:
30’s. Female. Friend to Virgilia. Talkative. Extrovert. Tries to alleviate and distract Virgilia from her concern and serious demeanor with conversation, wit and activity.
AEA ENSEMBLE:
30’s -40’s. Any gender. We are looking for an ensemble of actors with STRONG command of classical text (to possibly play smaller speaking roles and understudy principal roles) as well as developed stage combat skills.
