PREPARATION

Please prepare two very brief songs. One song should be in the style of CABARET and the second should be from a pop/rock musical. Total audition should be under 2 minutes. Bring sheet music with you, an accompanist will be provided.

Donna Sheridan, Sophie’s mother, former lead singer in a group called Donna and the Dynamos who now owns and runs a hotel/casino on a Greek Island. character is 40 to 50 years old. Principle Role. Vocal Range top: E5 bottom F#3

Sam Carmichael, Might be Sophie’s father, charming, successful architect. Character is 40 to 50 years old. Supporting Principle Role. Vocal Range top: Ab4 bottom D3

Bill Austin, Might be Sophie’s father, travel writer with no possessions or strings. Funny, preferably a big or imposing man. Character is 40 to 50 years old. Supporting Principle Role. Vocal Range top: F#4 bottom Bb2

Harry Bright, British financier, wealth and buttoned up. Must do an English Accent. Might be Sophie’s father, character is 40 to 50 years old. Supporting Principle Role. Vocal Range top: F#4 bottom C#3

Tanya, Former Dynamo, rich, sophisticated, acerbic, funny and witty. Character is 40 to 50 years old. Supporting Principle Role. Vocal range top: E5 bottom E3

Rosie, Former Dynamo, now writes and runs a feminist press. She’s confident and strong and funny on the outside, but shy underneath. Kooky and fun, good comic actress. Character is 40 to 50 years told. Supporting Principle Role. Vocal range top: D5 bottom E3

Seeking

Master of Ceremonies (Emcee) – the host at the Kit Kat Klub – presented as a gender-questionable character comfortable with being close to both men an dwomen; comedic, lovable; requires agile stage movement and dance; age range flexible, speaks with a German accent. Principle role. Vocal range: Middle C to high C#, tenor.

Sally Bowles – a British cabaret singer at the Kit Kat Klub, a quirky character who comes across as flighty, yet at times struggles with knowing the darkness of the reality of her life as a cabaret performer; comfortable with stage movement and dance; speaks with a British Accent. Principle role. Character is female in her 20s to 30s. Vocal range: low A to high C, soprano, strong belt.

Fraulein Schneider – a landlady who rents rooms in her large flat; comfortable with stage movement and dance; speaks with a German accent. Character is female over 50 years of age. Vocal range: Low D to Ab above middle C, alto.

Herr Schultz – one of Fraulein Schneider’s roomers and the proprietor of a fruit shop; comfortable with stage movement and dance; speaks with a German accent. Character is male, over 50 years of age. Vocal range: low G to high F, tenor.
