2019-2020 Meadow Brook Theatre Season Is Announced!

Meadow Brook Theatre's 2019-2020 season has something for everyone with comedies, musicals, a drama and even a whodunit. "We're excited not only to have Michigan premieres during our 54th season, but also to have the world premiere of a brand new musical," said Cheryl Marshall, MBT managing director. "We've got a wonderfully entertaining lineup and, once again, we're kicking things off with a great event this summer!"

On July 13, Meadow Brook Theatre will hold its fifth annual Concert & Cuisine benefit. Featuring a silent auction, live auction, restaurant tasting and one-night-only concert by Three Dog Night, Concert & Cuisine has become a favorite of MBT patrons. Tickets are on sale now at the box office.

The regular season kicks off in October and features seven shows sure to please.

The season opens with Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie, adapted by Ken Ludwig, running October 2 through 27, 2019. This will be the Michigan premiere of the new adaptation of the classic whodunit. Just after midnight, a snowdrift stops the Orient Express in its tracks. An American tycoon lies dead in his compartment, stabbed a dozen times, his door locked from the inside. Isolated with a killer in their midst, detective Hercule Poirot must identify the murderer-in case he or she decides to strike again.

The regular season then breaks for the special 38th holiday production of A Christmas Carol, by Charles Dickens, adapted by Charles Nolte, running November 8 - December 22, 2019. Subscribers to the MBT season receive a 20 percent discount for tickets to A Christmas Carol.

The new year kicks off with the classic farce Blithe Spirit by Noël Coward. The smash comedy hit of London and Broadway stages offers up the fussy, cantankerous, novelist Charles Condomine, remarried but literally haunted by the ghost of his late wife, the clever and insistent Elvira, who is called upon by a visiting "happy medium," Madame Arcati. Blithe Spirit runs January 8 through February 2, 2020.

Next up is a musical based on the best-selling book by Studs Terkel. Working paints a vivid portrait of the men and women that the world so often takes for granted: The schoolteacher, the phone operator, the waitress, the millworker, the mason and the housewife, just to name a few. Adapted by Stephen Schwartz and Nina Faso, with additional contributions by Gordon Greeneberg, Working was nominated for six Tony Awards, and has now been updated for a modern age, featuring new songs by Tony Award-winning Lin Manuel Miranda, as well as favorites by Stephen Schwartz, Craig Carnelia and James Taylor. Working runs February 12 through March 8, 2020.

The Michigan Premier of Mary Jane by Amy Herzog runs March 18 through April 12, 2020. As Mary Jane navigates both the mundane and unfathomable realities of caring for Alex, her chronically ill young son, she finds herself building a community of women from many walks of life. Mary Jane is Pulitzer Prize finalist Amy Herzog's remarkably powerful and compassionate portrait of a contemporary American woman striving for grace.

The fan favorite musical Little Shop of Horrors runs April 22 through May 17, 2020. By Howard Ashman and Alan Menken, Little Shop of Horrors tells the story of meek floral assistant Seymour Krelborn, who stumbles across a new breed of plant he names "Audrey II" - after his coworker crush. This foul-mouthed, R&B singing carnivore promises unending fame and fortune to the down-and-out Seymour as long as he keeps feeding it...blood. Will Seymour discover Audrey II's out-of-this-world origins and plans for global domination?

The season concludes May 27 - June 21, 2020 with the world premiere of a new musical. FANCY - A New Country Musical with a book by Susan DiLallo and Dan Wackerman, features country favorites like "Fancy," "Friends in Low Places" and "I Never Promised You a Rose Garden" to tell the story of Fancy. Turned out of her mother's house, young Fancy has nothing but her guitar and the clothes on her back. After trials and tribulations, Fancy rises to superstardom in the world of country music, but at what cost?

Season tickets are currently available by calling the Meadow Brook Theatre box office at 248-377-3300. They range from $180 to $234 per seat for the six-play season. When you subscribe to the 2019-2020 season, you may also purchase tickets for A Christmas Carol at a 20% discount before they go on sale to the general public.

Single tickets go on sale Monday, August 26, 2019 at 10 a.m. Tickets range from $36 to $46 for individual plays.
