Davidson Community Players Presents BENEDICTIONS

Davidson Community Players kicks off its 2019 Main Stage Season with Benedictions, written by Charlotte-area playwright, Judy Simpson Cook, and directed by Sylvia Schnople. Performances are made possible through a generous grant from the North Carolina Arts Council and will run Feb. 21-March 10 at the Armour Street Theatre in Davidson.

Jesse Bradshaw Warren is a Presbyterian minister who appears to have everything-she's the senior minster in a large charge and is happily married with two sons. When a young gay man, David Mack Kelly, comes to see her for counseling, his presence in the church seems to worry others, and Jesse starts to feel the conflict between her fondness for him and his challenges to her doctrine and beliefs. Then, as she faces an unspeakable family tragedy, everything in Jesse's life comes into question: her work as a minister, her marriage and her belief in God.

Advance tickets start at $20 for adults, $18 for seniors and $12 for students. Tickets can be purchased at DavidsonCommunityPlayers.org or by calling the box office at 704-892-7953.

Davidson Community Players is once again partnering with local nonprofit Davidson Learns (www.davidsonlearns.org) to offer a special community event prior to the Feb. 24 matinee of "Benedictions." A panel will be comprised of members of several faith groups and will offer participants the opportunity to learn about the traditions and beliefs and the various ways religions handle grief. The talk will take place on Feb. 24 at 12:30 p.m. at the Davidson Friends Meetinghouse on 625 S. Street in Davidson and is free, but anyone wanting to attend the show afterwards will need to purchase a ticket through Davidson Community Players by calling 704.892.7953 or visiting www.davidsoncommunityplayers.org.
