Gettysburg Community Theatre Presents A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM

Gettysburg Community Theatre, the non-profit 501c3 organization located inside 49 York Street in historic downtown Gettysburg, will perform Shakespeare's comedy A Midsummer Night's Dream 7:30pm Fridays and Saturdays and 2pm Sunday February 15-24, 2019.

Directed by Anna Kurtz, this two-hour comedy is great for all ages and includes a cast of local children and adults. In A Midsummer Night's Dream, four Athenians run away to the forest only to have Puck the fairy make both boys fall in love with the same girl. The four run through the forest pursuing each other while Puck helps his master, Oberon, play a trick on the fairy queen Titania. A group of mechanicals try to rehearse a play for the Duke's wedding day and in the end, Puck reverses all the magic, and the two couples reconcile and marry. Mistaken identities, fairies, dancing, magical romance, chase sequences and more make this comedy perfect for all ages.

"In many ways, this little theatre in this little town is closer to Shakespeare's Globe Theatre than many internationally known houses", says director Anna Kurtz. "We are only someone to the people who love us. Our costumes are pulled from storage. We have created theatre magic out of paper and chicken wire. A polar vortex interrupted our rehearsal schedule. We have dissolved into helpless giggles several times at our own mistakes."

Anna Kurtz is a professional actress, fight choreographer, teacher--and occasional director. As an actor, she has performed Shakespeare internationally and across the US. Favorite acting projects include Juliet in R&J (Bright Star Touring, NC), Mary in We Felt His Heart Beating (Bristol/London, UK), and L'il Bit in How I Learned to Drive (MEG, MD). She was nominated for Broadway World's Regional Best Actress in a Non-Equity Play for Dial "M" for Murder (Washington County Playhouse) and the WATCH award for Outstanding Fight Choreography for TAPE (Dominion Stage). She trained at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, UK where she earned her MA in Acting, her Certificate Classical Acting was earned at LAMDA UK, her BA in Theatre was earned at Belfast University, and she is British Academy of Dramatic Combat Certified. Anna is also an Acting Instructor at Gettysburg Community Theatre.
