Moonbox Announces New Initiative For Deaf & Disabled Artists, Technicians & Managers

Moonbox is thrilled to announce, "Turning the Tide", a new company initiative aimed at significantly improving opportunities for theatrical artists, technicians and managers living with Deafness and Disabilities in Boston. "Turning the Tide" kicks off on March 1st and 2nd with two evenings of new works created and performed by several local Deaf and Disabled artists with audience talkbacks to follow each show. The performances, directed by Elbert Joseph and Betsy Goldman, will be at 7pm at the BCA Black Box Theater.

Tickets for the performance are "pay-what-you-can" and all proceeds will go toward the upcoming year of workshopping and producing two original one-act plays by local artists. These one-acts will explore the experiences of people living with disabilities, and will be brought to life, both on and off the stage, by a diverse team of individuals including many who themselves are living with Deafness or Disability.

"Boston has a deep and vibrant community of artists and theater professionals who live with Deafness and with Disabilities, and yet the opportunities for them to have their perspectives shared on stage, and for them to participate in productions both on and off the stage are sorely lacking," said Sharman Altshuler, Producer and Artistic Director for Moonbox Productions. "Moonbox is excited to be taking this first step of a long-term company initiative to "turn the tide" on this situation both within our own company but also with the aim of leading by example for theater companies throughout Boston. The performances on March 1st and 2nd are beautiful, passionate, unique and eye-opening, and we are so grateful to the amazing team who has come together to make it all possible," said Altshuler!

Pay-what-you-can donations will be accepted at the door prior to each performance. Reserve your seat now at:
