Perhaps no other music of French composer Maurice Ravel captures his Spanish and Basque roots more than the ever-popular Bolero. Our season opening night concert will feature Bolero and two piano concertos by Ravel. Pianist Spencer Myer will play the jazz-influenced Piano Concerto in G and the unique Piano Concerto for the Left Hand, commissioned by an Austrian pianist who lost his right arm during World War I. Opening the concert is the elegiac Symphony No. 1 by American composer Samuel Barber.
