Sending positive vibes to California's beloved Senator Dianne Feinstein as she recovers in hospital from shingles.   Looking forward to her speedy return!

Shingles is truly nasty.  If you are a "Super Citizen," you might want to discuss with your doctor the feasibility of receiving the vaccine.

Our good Senator Feinstein continues to recover at home.

She recently announced that she would not run for reelection in 2024.  I am disgusted by the calls for her resignation.  Ageism at its worst.

Stay strong, Senator.

See below. This is article from a publication that is not run by "right wing nutjobs" but Vanity Fair. The article says the plain truth, it is not the age it is the ability to do the job.

I don't know if it is funny or sad that "Highland Guy" can't seem to handle any post that does not agree with his opinion. Even when it is done respectfully, he ignores it like it was not written. He makes the claim of "ageism" once again but when presented with a fair article by a liberal leaning "Vanity Fair" about Senator Feinstein's competence in the words of Jack Nicholson (A Few Good Men) he can't handle the truth.

I have no doubts "Highland Guy" will ignore this post also. Personally, I just think he loves to pontificate.

Fine, don't respond to any further posts. For the record, I have been very courteous to you. I have not agreed with you and have just pointed it out. I found it funny how you can't even engage in a little debate with somebody who has slightly different opinion. My goodness, "Vanity Fair'' prints article about the lack of competence of Senator Feinstein so it is not just my opinion. Please feel free to report any post I have made to you in any thread to BWW. I would love to see if they think you are being bullied. Enjoy your weekend.

BTW - In this thread I wished Senator Feinstein well (04/19) and said she served her country admirably. Does that sound like somebody who is mean spirited or a "bully"?

When Senator Feinstein announced that she would not seek reelection in 2024, three excellent California Democratic Representatives stepped forward to state their intention to run for her seat in the Senate:  Barbara Lee, Katie Porter and Adam Schiff.   Others, of course, may follow.  2024 will be an exciting election year in the Golden State.

Continuing to send strength to Dianne Feinstein and to hope for her speedy return to the Senate.

I love Dianne Feinstein and voted for her a number of times. But she turns 90 in June and by many accounts even from close colleagues, is no longer able to fully carry out her duties and do her job.  Not running for another 6 year term at 91 was a foregone conclusion. She should seriously consider bowing out now. She's had a remarkable run and has nothing left to prove.

Well said and it was exactly my point to the OP who for some reason wants to claim "ageism" as the reason people want her to resign. Hopefully, she recovers and can enjoy the rest of her years.

Best wishes to all of the people she and her staff have failed by selfishly refusing to step down when she doesn't even know what year it is.

By a wild twist of fate I happened to be on the hill right when she returned.

She does not look well. I wish the best, but it was a very sad sight indeed.

"Dianne Feinstein literally has dementia and has no business serving any longer."

Exactly!! Governor Newsome is very progressive Governor of California and I am sure he would have no problem finding a progressive person to replace her.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s office confirmed on Thursday that the California Democrat experienced broader health complications following her shingles diagnosis, contradicting an earlier denial from the senator herself.

A Feinstein spokesperson said in a statement to CNN that those complications “included Ramsay Hunt syndrome and encephalitis.”

The spokesperson added, “While the encephalitis resolved itself shortly after she was released from the hospital in March, she continues to have complications from Ramsay Hunt syndrome.”

Earlier on Thursday, Feinstein told CNN she did not have encephalitis, saying, “it really has never been diagnosed properly.”

“It was really a bad flu,” Feinstein said, adding, “I’m doing better, thank you.”

It is rare for a Senate office to publicly contradict its own senator.

CNN

Bye Dianne, you are done. Thank you for your service but lying about your health when you work for the people is not acceptable. (And any comments about ageism is just a truly delusional person who hates the idea of being old and think people who are incredibly sick should keep on working because they are simply....their age). Nah.

Is it ageism? Sure, absolutely. Is it incorrect that her age had predisposed her to myriad of health conditions? Not at all. There are plenty of people in congress in their 70s and even 80s who have maintained their faculties to perform their job. At this point, she isn't one of them.

Separate issue, but there should absolutely be age limits on serving in congress and all higher office honestly. What that would exactly look like is up for debate, but letting people in their late 70s and 80s hold levers of power when they can't even access their email by themselves is pitiful.

Yeah no, it's not. I had no idea how old she was until I read that article nor do I care. If Josh Hawley (ugh) had early onset dementia, I would want the same thing. Age has nothing to do with any of this. She cannot do the job anymore and the fact that her own office (people that work for her) contradicted her? That is insane and is rarely done.

Agree about age limits though. Running for office and driver's licenses!

"Agree about age limits though. Running for office and driver's licenses! "

I don't know where you live but last time, I had to renew my driving license, I had to pass eye test and be able to correctly identify road signs. These steps usually will prevent older people from continuing to drive when they should not be out on the road and possibly hurt other people. My brother and I were lucky, my mother made the decision herself to stop driving at 83.

So where do you draw the line on age limit for holding office? Maybe if the American voter was smarter, they would not continue to put people like Feinstein, McConnell etc. in office. Term limits has been debated and sadly would never pass but this would probably solve the problem of an 89-year-old who is senile still being a US Senator.

Don't ask me, I honestly think people should pass a test to vote so my "no one should start the process of running for office past the age of 65" is not really the popular opinion and would never fly.

"Imagine being a Team Blue fan boy like Highland Guy who is excited to see a person with dementia being dragged around the capitol. I hope I never become such a blind partisan. "

I think it is cruel what is happening with her and I would hope her family/friends would put a stop to it and convince her to resign. There is absolutely no danger of Democrats losing her seat so why not get person who can actually do the job now.

The sad thing is, McConnell won't let Democrats replace her on the judiciary committee. So even if she was replaced her replacement couldn't appoint judges. Now we have to hope an ailing person can hold on and start confirming judges again. Completely avoidable situation the Democrats made for themselves. So frustrating.

Welp. Stable Mabel is out of commission again. Fell and now is unable to fulfill her duties as senator. Not like she makes any of her own decisions at this point anyway. Appointment of judges is halted and if God forbid she is replaced the GOP won't allow Democrats to fill her seat on the judiciary panel. Another great job brought to you by the US gerontocracy.
