Come From Away. It’s one of my favorite musicals of all time. Gives you faith in humanity again with fantastic storytelling, characters, music, staging, you can’t go wrong! I hope I can see it again on tour. I recommend that or Oklahoma.
I was skeptical when I heard they were making a musical out of Mean Girls. However, when I saw it last year (and have since seen it many more times) I was pleasantly surprised. The cast is amazing, the music catchy and clever.
Come From Away has become my go-to recommendation for anyone. It's a no-intermission show, but more than that, it finds a way to balance the importance of the seriousness of what happened on 9/11 in Gander while still being entertaining, funny, and makes you really think about how a community came together when a nation was in trouble and needed it the most. You can't go wrong with either one, honestly.
Oklahoma or CFA. Ok has the slight edge since it is a limited time. I eouldnt suggest anyone see any of the others.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
If you want a musical that will really open your mind to what a show can be, instead of what it "should" be, I would also consider Oklahoma!. I think great theater is theater that leaves you thinking and discussing it long after the curtain has come down. Even though I didn't love it, that was definitely my experience at St. Ann's.
Wow that’s hard. Come from and away and mean girls BOTH need to be seen! Totally different shows but both completely amazing. Come from away is amazing is a more serious story, but an amazing one at that. It’s usually my go to recommendation for anyone when they ask what to see. Mean girls is essentially a comedy and checks off every box for me in what a musical should be. I thought it was going to be cheesy but it far exceeded expectations to the point wheee I’ve gone back to see it a few more times.
Gotta also put in that I love Be More Chill. It’s not a mind blowing earth shattering show, but it’s really fun and quirky and has more of that high school feel similar to Dear Evan Hanson. Also the main character in be more chill is the same guy who played Jared (Evan’s best friend) in Dear Evan Hanson, so it was fun and felt like I was seeing someone I “knew” when I saw be more chill.
You can’t go wrong with any of these shows honestly. They all have a rush - I think come from away is slightly more difficult to get tickets for, but not impossible. Mean girls is intermediate difficulty and be more chill the easiest (I’ve walked up to the be more chill box office 5 minutes before show time and have gotten a ticket)
