Tickets for King Kong are now on sale thru January 12, 2020. To be honest, thought this would be a closing announcement and not an extension. Doesn't mean it'll make it that far but still... grosses just don't seem good. Still interested in seeing this for Kong himself though.
January 2020? That's ambitious. Most shows don't book that far ahead unless they're a massive hit, or they're desperate to build an advance. I think we all know which column its in. I'm sure they want to make to at least New Year's Week, but I can imagine closing Labor Day weekend.

The only reason it's still running now is that there is no other show ready to take it's place at the Broadway Theatre. As soon as there is, the Shuberts will ask the producer to gracefully bow out.
