The original “Pet Sematary” from 1989 has not aged terribly well, I think even its biggest fans can agree with that. But what it maintains to this day is this demented, compelling quality that makes it impossible to take one’s eyes off the screen. Not to mention the iconic performances of Fred Gwynne and young Miko Hughes.

This new remake has a lot going for it, moody cinematography, a strong cast (although Jason Clarke tends to err on the side of bland, as per usual), and a provocative third act that excitingly veers away from the source material. Sadly lacking is a nightmarish, thematic weight. It’s a strong horror movie in its own right, but I don’t foresee it haunting generations of fans like the original did.

Anyone else see it? What did you think? yesno

I really enjoyed this movie. I agree that Jason Clarke wasn't on top of it all the time, but I thought that this film was really captivating and it kept me interested the entire time. I've never seen the original, so I can't speak to how they compare. I'm just a sucker for horror movies, and even when they aren't the best, I still tend to find things to like about them.

I didn't like it really at all.   I respect they were trying to do something different but I don't think they went far enough or stuck the landing.  I didn't care for any of the characters, Jud and Zelda were trimmed to basically nothing, and it wasn't scary at all.  Ultimately, I was bored.

My biggest disappointment. Zelda was such a memorable part of the original, and one of the most disturbing parts of the novel, and she was given nothing to do in this Pet Sematary (2019)

I think they were like "Well we have to put Zelda in somewhere" and just shoe horned her in.  My roommate, who has never read the book or seen the original movie, was like "what was the point of her?"  So, I had to explain her backstory and purpose and he went, "Yeah, didn't get any of that."

I feel that there was a lot more filmed but cut out which would have made it flow better.  All the "horror" scenes were done off camera and I was really curious what exactly made it Rated R? I think it was a PG-13 through and through.
