I am curious for people that have seen Year 2 perform your thoughts! If you saw Year 1 and Year 2 you can explain big differences! Tell me what you think!

It's the same show. There have been no changes.

I saw the first performance of the Year 2 cast so who knows if the changes stayed....

I'm not going into full details because (a) it's hard to explain and (b) #keepthesecrets. Cursed Child Year 2

  • The opening scene for both Act 1 and Act 3 changed slightly
  • The wand dance changed choreography (which I was told is similar to what they have in Melbourne)
  • Lines that the original UK cast had changed (but never officially changed in the script) have now reverted back to the actual lines
  • And then they tweaked some actual lines between Albus and Scorpius in Act 4 (and possibly in other scenes but that was the most noticeable)

Of course, acting and staging choices differ but those aren't actual changes - that comes with new cast members.

I'm fond with a majority of the new cast; some will take more time to get used to. Look forward to seeing it later when they've all settled and gotten their grooves.

As far as the opening scene is concerned,

The Sorting Hat now uses magic to "guide" the muggles away from the train platform. I can't recall if he uses a wand, but I'm pretty sure he just motions with his hand.

I preferred it the old way.

Saw both parts on Saturday and loved it. I had not seen the year one cast.

James Snyder, Jonno Roberts, Jenny Jules, and Bubba Weiler were standouts as Harry, Draco, Hermione, and Scorpius. It was a delight to see Stephen Spinella in a surprise role at the top of the second play.

This cast is already performing at such an incredible level with less than two weeks under their belt.

I'm glad everyone has been to careful not to spoil the magic - it really is brilliant.

If you're able to, I'd love a PM with specific examples. I saw the new cast this weekend but the last time I saw the show it was ~April of last year so I don't know exactly what you're referring to but I think I can tell.

I really enjoyed the new cast. It was a bit of a shock, just because I'd seen the original cast 3.5 times and loved them all, but the new cast did a great job. I probably won't be seeing it again until the next cast change, but if the opportunity arose I would not hesitate to go back and see them again.

I’d love to see a list of which ensemble members cover which tracks.

They tweaked the Act 3 opening?!!? No way that was definitely one of the best moments in the play (to me)

Hey,

I was looking for tickets today online and apparently, Ticketmaster changed their system. Now you can actually choose your seats. Does anybody know more about it?

Does anyone else who's seen the show recently after seeing it earlier in the run think that...

Lauren Nicole Cipoletti's performance as Moaning Myrtle has gotten way too over-the-top? I used to think it was one of the show's highlights, but when I saw it with the new cast, I thought it was really unfocused, with blatant attempts to get laughs. I realize she's comic relief, but it seemed unnecessary.

Absolutely agree. That was honestly one of the biggest differences to me.

Also agree and it may be my overly sensitive ears, but she is so loud and screechy lately (I've seen her 3 times in the past 4 months).

Got to see the Year 2 cast tonight! I saw the original London cast / OBC many times, so it was really exciting to see all these new faces!

Overall, it was a great day! I *really* enjoyed the new ensemble, and the majority of the new leads are fantastic. They have implemented a long list of very small changes throughout the entire show, which I cannot imagine anyone besides a mega fan like me would notice. Most are for the better, and it made the show feel so fresh! I’ll include a list of changes in spoiler box below.

James Snyder is shockingly a phenomenal Harry Potter. He owns the role and was a great leader. Jenny Jules as Hermione was another standout. Nicholas Podany also gave Albus relatability and redeemability that I personally didn’t think was possible. The supporting actresses also really shined, more so than ever before (particularly those playing Rose, Pentunia, and McGonnegal.) The new cast makes a lot of new acting choices, and it feels like they elevated the piece even further. Also. Stephen Spinella? The amount of dedication he put into today was enthralling. When he cast his Patronous, he f*cking CAST it.

The only miss for me is Bubba Wieler as Scorpius. While I’m a massive Anthony Boyle fan, I’m not a purist, and I’ve enjoyed Alex and Nathan as understudies in this role, too. But Bubba is treating the character like a pantomime. He makes Scorpius downright annoying with his constant flailing and booming characterisms - it made Albus look levelheaded and humble, which he is not. It was just...so off-putting.

And to comment on the above conversation about Lauren as Myrtle, I personally have no problem with how big she plays the role. The audience adores the character, and it’s very true to the essence of Myrtle. Plus, Lauren is simply devastating as Lily Potter Sr, so I’m very happy she signed on again.

This was only their 7th full performance, and I’m sure they well all continue to grow and evolve. I’m curious how they will all evolve as they grow more comfortable. The all seemed grasping for their next lines at one point or another, which is understandable as it’s 5 hours. Jenny also almost had a mishap with a certain stunt in Act 2, so there is still PLENTY to fine tune.

- Changes I noticed -

- Choreography has changed (slightly, but enough) in:

  • the opening scene
  • wand dance
  • Draco/Harry due
  • Act 3 opener
  • Act 3 "Voldemort World" transitions have been relocked
  • the second Act 4 pumpkin transition

- A dozen or two of new/updated/cut lines sprinkled throughout, but absolutely nothing significant, except for a prolonged metaphor about Tom Riddle by Draco in Act 2.

- New sound and lighting effects/cues have been added throughout.

- All spells are now cast with more grandeur (wider strokes, bigger enunciation). Overall, the whole evening feels more "magical"

So interesting to hear the opinions about Bubba Weiler as Scorpious. I saw CC for the first time last Thursday and Friday and I found his performance to be really heartfelt and involving, but I also have nothing to compare to. I can only imagine how good Anthony Boyle was.

Totally agree that James Snyder was a stand-out, and the cast as a whole felt very strong. I also saw The Ferryman shortly after the cast transitioned, and it's so clear when they've had time to rehearse together as a new, cohesive unit.

As someone who has only seen the current cast (last Wednesday), I wasn't at all disappointed in any of the performances. For having only been in their roles a short time the entire piece felt very fluid and honest.

After seeing the original cast many times, I thought year 2 was incredible. Specifically Bubba Weiler and James Snyder. Both were stand outs.

So, for about two weeks I had been eyeballing tickets for my July trip, but not really wanting to pay the $265 for both parts in a balcony seat. I stumbled back to the Harry Potter website late last night and the exact same seats were now reduced by nearly 50%. Whaaaat? I don’t know why that happened, but I bought them as quickly as I could grab my credit card, and now have front row balcony seats at the total cost (for both parts) at the seemingly really good price of $161 including all taxes. It was only $69.50 per part plus fees. For July! Very excited!!! I also bought a window card, now available in very limited supplies, at the Triton Gallery website. Psyched!!!
