Thank goodness it's back on the Bravo network. Really feelin' the new lighting, workroom, runway, regular and guest judges so far, models, mentor Christian Siriano, and the host Karlie Kloss despite her being...wait for it...Ivanka Trump's sister-in-law. Host Karlie Kloss is a towering 6' 2" tall ethereal being who has to be every designer's insta-muse, no pun intended. I like Heidi & Tim but they weren't missed at least in the first episode of Season 17.

I'm that odd guy who likes changes so as much as I enjoy Tim and Heidi the show got stale to say the least. Here's to a revamp!

To me, each show is only as good as the fashion that actually walks the runway at the end. Last night, those 3 white wool looks were just superb (and the winner was the correct choice by a mile!) so I was a happy camper. I'm mystified why so many designers keep defaulting to black and navy on the runway when episode after episode those are always the looks that fail the farthest.
Great challenge, great winning looks, astute mentoring from Christian. The show is so worth watching again.

I've been enjoying it too! I was worried about Christian but have found him quite personable!
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Super happy about the win this week-- but can anyone explain why Hester's outfits in the confessionals this week were all over the map? I thought the designers basically do confessionals for the episode all at once in one consistent outfit-- Hester must have redressed herself 4 or 5 times at least in the confessional booth this week.
Well the writing is already on the wall as far as I can see-- Sebastian is the one to beat for the whole $250,000. That man's work is astonishing, no?

The only thing worse than Nadine's bad attitude was the garment she sent down the runway. Sorry for the spoiler but neither will be missed.
ETA: In terms of concept & execution Sebastian does seem to be several levels above his peers, but, we've seen a front-runner crash and burn before. I also sense that PR will milk his personal narrative as a recent immigrant for all it's worth. Makes for good TV.

Honestly, there were plenty of crappy runway looks that were the equal of hers. I somewhat fault her bitching about her model's proportions on the fact that the producers SURPRISED the designers with who they were designing for after they'd already shopped at Mood. How is that fair?
And sure, Nadine was edited to look grumpy-- frankly I liked her honesty: when she was over it, she simply said she was over it. Brava to her, and I hope she holds her head high when she's back home with her family.

I am missing Tim, though. I always liked Christian, but he never comes across as very warm or anything... and he always looks like they shoot one floor under his own studio, and he wants to get back upstairs.

Damn those unconventional materials challenges! Ugh!! Is it me or did they just radically change up their judging criteria this time without telling anyone? Haven't they always complained in the past about just making a coat from tent fabric and sending it down the runway, yet this time that's the look that won!! What's worse is the notion that that stupid scrap of fake cow hide Renee tied on the front would do anything to keep the girl underneath warmer.
And if keeping your girl warm was gonna be the criteria, shouldn't they have informed Afa of that fact before he made his bathing suit look? The whole judging reeked of mean switcheroos to me. They obviously should have sent Kovid home and I dread watching one more damn episode with him anywhere in it.
My favorites? Hester's show stopper with camo skirt and rope corset should have won by a mile. Bishme's blue puffy coat with mint corset and rocks on the skirt was fun. And Rakan's bandage thing with a sleeping bag-coat and skirt was ok if lacking in transformation.
Thank God that episode is behind them-- now they can all come inside and warm the f**k up!

^Hah! I can overlook it when Christian shows up in gorgeous window-pane plaid jackets or pants like he did in Episode One. I hope those were his own designs.

It has to be said-- it's amazing what this crop of designers can make in 11 hours, even the crappy looks!
So congrats to Bishme-- I loved the bomber jacket but it's odd that those pants or blouse didn't get dinged for not being street; without the jacket those would have been cheap suburban Ross Dress for Less pieces.
I would have given top prize to Garo Sparo-- that was a silhouette that was brand new and totally street, and astonishing to fabricate in one day.
And I'm in love with Hester's brand. Okay, so that pink sparkle outfit was more club kid than streetwear-- who cares when it walks the runway with that much panache.
Great job, everyone. Now I'm ready for some ball gown challenges please.

Thank the deity of your choice that the eliminated designer was, well...eliminated. But, there should have been a double elimination because the last saved designer sent a heaping pile of shaite down the runway. I'm over his quilting projects and have no interest in seeing what he serves up next. I just didn't get the concept of the juxtaposition of Elizabethan excess with contemporary black culture as he attempted to explain it. Perhaps bruh's inner identity conflict is as unresolved as the dress the produced.
On to the better looks. Bishme really embraced the challenge but his winning look seemed slightly dated, like Jenny From the Block dated. From what little I know about fashion, it worked on several levels; just didn't really break any new ground. I agree that Garo Sparo was on some next level "ish". He completely elevated street wear and his model owned the runway. I'm also certain that Serena Williams has already reached out to Venny for a tennis-shoe-inpired street wear colabo.
But, a word to the wise is sufficient. That Hester came to slay...she has a brand. I now tune in each week to see what she's going to send down the runway. In her I see an artist who revels in her own uniqueness, can execute her designs, and is hell bent on bending the fashion industry to her will. She met with rejection early in her career but soldiers on while the fashion industry catches up to her. Garo Sparo and she are two I'd like to see in the finale for sure.

^ Curious if that's your actual response to watching the episodes this season? I too was dubious about Siriano's skills as a mentor going in, but he's turned around my thinking by giving the designers spot-on critiques and using his real-life experience in those make-it-work situations where platitudes and hugs were all Tim Gunn was prepared to offer.
Not to belittle Tim as the icon that he was (that voice!!), but Christian is carving out a legit niche for himself as a real mentor in his own right.

A lot of what seems like "mean switcheroos" is due to editing. There is so much that the designers are told during the set-ups for each challenge that never gets aired, and the judging/critiquing can actually last for several hours, which then gets distilled down to about 10 minutes of air time. The designers have a much stronger idea of what they should be doing than what we actually see.

And now that I've actually caught up on the episodes I have to say I really like the majority of the changes. The show feels fresh and exciting in a way that it hasn't since the whole Gretchen/Mondo debacle, or the move to Lifetime for that matter. I do miss Tim, but Christian has actually held his ground quite well as a replacement, and I honestly don't miss Heidi at all.
The biggest overall improvement in the show? The dropping of all the pandering to the sponsors. No more "let me run to the BROTHER SEWING ROOM" and rushing your model to "the MARY KAY MAKEUP ROOM and GARNIER HAIR STUDIO." The sponsored product name-dropping had reached such an obscene pitch the last few seasons that I was close to walking away from the series (as it is I don't remember if I even watched the last few episodes of the previous season.

No I've not seen it yet..I am currently marathoning all the older eps.
I like Christian so I will still give it a go, but I can't even imagine it without Tim

I was going to ask the question, but Javero already answered my question. I don't watch this show. The commercials are endless. I wanted to know the name of the really tall woman with the hot hairstyle. She is fierce looking. Is she good on the show?

I think you mean Karlie Kloss. Her husband is the brother of Jared Kushner, who is married to Ivanka Trump.
