I saw this last week and wasn't a huge fan of it. I love John Guare, but this was a very safe and very standard play. Strong performance from Will Swenson, even though his character isn't needed in the play at all.

It was alright. John was very charming. The stuff with the children was... strange. Sounds like they have cut A LOT. It was about 1 hour, 45 minutes with intermission on Tuesday, and I hope they cut that!

Largely agree. A fun couple of hours, but adds up to nothing. Worth it if you have nothing better to do and get a cheap ticket.

Always happy to watch Douglas Sills, and he has fun with the couple of minor characters he gets.

Pretty dire overall -- a flabby play about annoying characters, I found it impossible to be even remotely interested at all.  They'll just put anything on that stage, it seems.

Mileage will vary, I guess.  But if you do decide to subject yourself to this thing, be sure to get seats as close to the center as you can.  Avoid the side sections -- Jerry Zaks' habit of lining his characters up in a straight line across the stage makes for way too many uncomfortable moments where you can only see the back of one actor blocking everybody else.

How was the nude scene handled?

I actually enjoyed it, it wasn’t the most memorable play, but it kept me engaged throughout. The set was effective and it had solid acting all around. It is a farce, but at the same I thought it handled some pretty heavy themes. My problem is that it felt slightly unresolved, maybe because it tried to tackle so much that certain plot points felt abandoned by the time it ended. I do feel that a certain ambiguity to certain elements might be intentional, but not on that many plot points.

I’m curious to see how reviews are gonna go, I believe it opens tomorrow.

The abuse that Lilac and Poe suffered felt unresolved to me, the father mentioned intentionally giving them a poor childhood in hopes they will create great art in the future, but would that mean subjecting them to sexual abuse?! They were clearly messed up kids when we see them in present time.

Also, the murder or suicide of the mother. I feel this is intentioned left unresolved though, but I don’t see the point of even creating the ambiguity though. I’m possibly reading too much into it.
