While the show as an overall might have a more diverse cast, each season the diversity is formulaic and what one could consider tokenism in certain demographics.
You’ve hit on the fact that as the seasons have progressed that the show has become less diverse.
In recent years you have, to stay on point, one plus size queen which is always automatically the underdog and has to prove her worthiness in the competition.
We’ve had the storyline of the poor black queen who can’t afford costumes but the show hasn’t tackled what it means to be a plus size queen in an industry that’s creating increasingly sexualised versions of women.
I think season three had two plus size queens not three, and I think that the queens have progressed a lot since then so when I say it’s time a big queen wins i mean there’s big queens out there who are talented enough to take the crown if given the opportunity.
If you want to look at Season 7, was Ginger undeserving of the crown or did she just not conform to Ru Paul’s vision of a ‘glamazon’. It’s all well and good playing the queen version of Oprah but is Ru Paul actually open to the idea? I think she had a very narrow view of drag. Which has opened on the show when criticised or when she can piggy back on cultural happenings.
Question for you Las Vegas posters. An activity I was doing for my trip in July got cancelled and I was looking for something else late morning on a Saturday. Has anyone been to the Drag Brunch at Senor Frogs? I head some of the cast are Drag Race Girls. Although not really a fan because of her beef with my all time favorite Alyssa Edwards, it would be nice to see a name in person like Coco Montrese. I would not be doing the full fledge buffet and drinks, only paying a mere admission fee to stand. For anyone who has gone...is the show worth it?
