Jeremy was off last Thursday as well, I called Ticketmaster and I told them I was going to specifically see him, and they gave me a refund within one day.
I hope this is joking because expecting an actor to be in every single performance is very unrealistic.
For a FIVE week engagement? It's extremely realistic actually.

They will obviously do their best to make every single performance, but things happen. They can be the healthiest person in the world and something just happens where maybe they lose their voice or something. So yes, maybe I misspoke about that, but things happen. Someone in their family could pass away. Do you want them to do the show anyway, or actually be out for one show to be with their family during an incredibly difficult time? I bet a ton of people wanted to see Lenne in Waitress. I know she has a fanbase. But after what happened last week, do you really expect her to just continue on in the show as if nothing happened? No. She couldn't have expected that. And I know her run wasn't a limited one but just saying.
When someone is in a show long term, obviously things come up more. Statistically, people with such short engagements are there for all of them. I do hope Jeremy's family is ok, I saw Waitress years ago and was only going again to see him. Oh well.

Do you honestly think actors have any control over these types of things? Actors don't want to miss shows. They always want to do the best they can do be at every show. But life happens. People get sick. Emergencies come up. I hope this is joking because expecting an actor to be in every single performance is very unrealistic."
I’m not joking. Sorry this was the risk the producers made and they (the producers) have to be accountable for it not consumers.
"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022)
"Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009)

To be clear I’m not expecting that Jeremy attend the show, but the producers need to take the hit if they can’t deliver the service - not consumers. As they typically do thankfully in NYC (cf. the scamming west end). The issue is that I don’t know if Jeremy is technically above the title here so I’m curious how they will deal with it.

Okay 1. No producer in the world can decide what constitutes as a family emergency. An actor has an obligation to the show, yes. But they’re a person with friends and family and things happen sometimes that are out of their control. It doesn’t matter how long their run is—do not be disrespectful! 2. Productions do not have ANY obligation to tell audiences when an actor will be out. However sometimes exceptions are made—Audra in Shuffle Along, Laura Benanti in My Fair Lady....those are the main two I can think of. Oh and whatever the schedule is for the actors playing Evan Hansen. I think it says that on Telecharge. All that you are owed when you purchase a ticket is seeing the show. You run the risk of not seeing a performer. Was I frustrated when I wanted to see Sara Bareilles in her first run in Waitress and she was out? Yes. But as I said—I heard amazing things about Stephanie Torns, so then I saw her. I know—I KNOW not everyone can do something like that. I am very aware. But just be aware of how insulting it is to complain about things like this. No, Jeremy Jordan is not above the title but I’m fairly certain Ticketmaster is good about refunds if you’re so picky. Sometimes you just have to learn to be thankful you’re seeing the show at all.
You are arguing points I am not even making, except that shows that sell stars should refund if they can’t deliver - which they usually do.

The marketing materials that say “Now starring soshana bean and Jeremy Jordan”.

Just hoping that whatever family things are going on, eveything is ok. If its simply to handle the birth of his child, mazel tov to them both!
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
I hope things are ok for Jeremy and his family. While I certainly understand people being frustrated with him missing multiple dates unexpectedly over a short run, emergencies happen and can’t always be anticipated. I saw the show last weekend and the rest of the cast does a great job (and Jeremy’s role is important but definitely not the focal point of the show) so him not being there doesn’t mean it won’t be enjoyable to see. I love him but I’d be more upset if I was going and Bean was out instead of him, as far as quality of the show goes.
It would be great if he were to extend for a couple weeks due to this but I don’t know if he has other commitments or what’s going on with whoever is replacing him. It would be smart for the producers to try to keep him for a bit after Shoshana Bean leaves if they don’t have anything big lined up.
Well, that’s about as flimsy a confirmation as we could hope for...
There are a lot possible explanations for his brief hiatus, but logic would dictate that the birth of a child, along with the months long plan of secrecy that would have to accompany it, would be pretty far down the list.
I agree with everyone else--I do hope everything is okay. I just get frustrated when people completely disrespect understudies and standbys who work so hard, only to get dissed by people who don't appreciate them, the hard work they put into a show--it's not easy! So when someone is out and they have to step in, how do you think they feel when people moan and groan about seeing them? Just because it says "starring Jeremy Jordan" doesn't mean things won't come up that will cause him to potentially miss a show. Show some respect.
I don’t know why people are misinterpreting potential criticism of producers to be criticism of undertstudies or Jeremy Jordan himself. I say potential because for all I know they might refund if Jeremy is out. The fact that the producers would even want Jeremy to start when he is imminently about to have a child seems like desperation for his name to me rather than caring about audiences (of course, maybe the baby was delivered much later than anticipated).
That said, I’m intentionally being dramatic. Jeremy is not Bette milder, it’s a small part and it’s probably only a few performances. It really doesn’t matter THAT much.

Yeah I don’t think either Shoshana or Jeremy are technically above the title - Sara, Jason and Katharine were and their names were listed on ticketmaster next to the performances they were attending, but not with Shoshana and Jeremy. However, if only from PR perspective, given that the show these days is never a sellout I don’t think it does too much harm to offer refunds or replacement dates if they are out unexpectedly. I am sure a big Jeremy fan who is going specifically to see Jeremy might well make an effort to go another time.
His Instagram confirms it's the birth of their child - congrats to the both of them!

I sincerely hope no one is mad on any social media platform. His wife just had a baby for crying out loud. If you’re mad...get over it. In my opinion, the birth of your child is more important than you seeing a specific actor in a role.
**i know no one has said anything. I’m writing this in case people are still mad that he’s not there.
I think people will be disappointed but won't complain or bash him on social media. I mean, only people that are seriously unhinged would do that (what comes to mind is some terrible woman bashing Idina on sm for not being there in If/Then because her child was sick.)

Yes! She flew all the way from Florida I believe and called her horrible names because her daughter did not get to see her perform. Called her a bitch and unprofessional.
